At the New Brighton Rally, there was an incredible sounding Mk II Escort, being powered by a rotary engine (Like those usually seen in WWI Aircraft). I found the website maintained by the people who run the car, showing what exactly it is running etc...

Its pretty interesting stuff...

Obviously, engines like these are usually used in Mazdas (Wankel), which is what the engine in this escort is originally from.

It was amazing to hear, especially close up and on idle... Really did sound like a WWI Sopwith Camel... Duh Duh Duh... Duh Duh Duh... Duh Duh Duh..

Its an interesting way to go about things, I havent heard of many people doing Wankel Conversions, especially in rally cars.
Suppose it gives them the power they need, but with a smaller engine capacity...one way to go about the seperate engine classes I suppose as well.
