Home favourite Dani Pedrosa dominated from the start to claim a comfortable victory in the Catalunya MotoGP.
Pedrosa got past pole-starter Casey Stoner on the first corner and gradually built up an impressive lead.
Valentino Rossi, who started ninth, and Stoner fought it out for second but the pair could not get close to Pedrosa, who finished 2.8 seconds clear.
Rossi took second with Stoner third while Britain's James Toseland held on for sixth to equal his best finish.
Pedrosa, who qualified second, made his decisive move early on and powered away from the rest of the field straight away, setting a new circuit record on the second lap.
