Hey all, not been on here in yonks! I'm after a cheap motor and could be looking at a 1.6 Escort tomorrow. Any tips on what to look for? It's done 107K, is it likely to do another 10? Any help would be greatfully recieved.

Cheers

Just listen for strange noises mate,
ask if they are aware of any problems.

Who knows if you will get 10k miles out of it,
but we hope you do wink

watch out for maf sensors as they some times let go and the revs banjo simple fix with a new maf sensor (tenner from the scrappy), ask what oil is used in the servicing as it should be 5/30 but as the engine is 100k plus 10/40 will be ok.

mine lasted 180000 before it started to go tits up! just check the breather hose to the block under the coil pack. apart from that they are ok.

Cheers for the replies chaps, but someone beat me to the post frown Got there and was having a look around the car, the only problems I could see were cosmetic - rusty boot/roof/doors, chunk taken outta the bottom of the front bumper, a few scratches etc. Went to get the owner of the garage to see if he could give me the keys to start it up, when he came out of his office shaking hands with another fella, who jumped straight into the escort and drove off! Engine sounded sweet as a nut too frown

Never mind, may the search continue...

zetec engines are pretty good mate but it aint uncommonto have idle problems, which are more often than not very cheap to fix (if u go to see one and it doesnt idle too well, dont let it put u off too much). main thing to look out for on mk6s are the wishbones, which go a lot, other than that its just everyday basic stuff to look for on all cars like rust etc
