Top Gear set a new ratings record for this week's show, being watched by 8 million people.

The BBC programme, shown on Sunday evenings, has benefited from the publicity surrounding presenter Richard Hammond's near-fatal crash last year.

The show has reportedly seen an almost two-fold increase in its viewer ratings compared with its last series.

Sunday's episode even brought in more viewers than the series' first episode, which featured footage of Hammond's high speed crash.

The programme also beat shows being aired on both ITV1 and BBC1 at the same time.

Wow, it just goes to prove that the BBC were damn right to keep Top Gear on the air against all the criticism they recieved in the days and weeks after the Hammond crash.

Go Top Gear, long live the king!

I agree. It just seems as though they're not having as much fun as they used to.

Definately the best program on the BBC, if not all analogue channels (1-5).

The best program for me is CSI smile , but top gear aint far behind
