hi , dunno if anyone can help, i seem to have developed a problem on my 53 plate vectra sri. sometimes, not all the time the steering can feel a bit heavy, or feels like when u turn the wheels when stationary on gravel (only way i could describe it) but only on the left or n/s, and like i said only turnig left. i was wondering if the wheel could be out of balance, as it doesnt pull either way & runs dead straight i no its not the tracking, its just had an mot so couldnt be the shock. I got no strange noises from the power steering and the power steering fluid level is spot on. Am totally confused as it doesnt do it all the time. Any one any ideas ?
PAS Pump? Is it electric or belt driven on the new veccys?
Get it to a garage mate asap, preferably a Vauxhall specialist, probably the safest option, anything to do with steering could be potentially fatal.
Don't a PAS pumps usually "whine" when they have problems Stuy? Or is this just when their on thier way out?

Depends what is wrong with it, can also make a difference if its belt driven or electrical (Electrical is more likely to make no noise).
Isnt there still some sort of wattanty on a '53 Plate Vactra
warranty has not long run out, took it to lookers in b/head, they said strip the wheel arch lining out cos thats where the fluid is, and its more than likely that getting low.
Even though the warranty has run out now, with it only recently running out they should really have offered to look into this for you for free!
Ah well, the beauties of dealers eh?!
was thinkin that, i'll check the fluid tommorrow and take it from there, they seem to think its no too serious tho cos its not all the time, lets hope not eh ?!
its that getting low. PS fluid shouldnt really go down, espcially after 3 years. It may be leaking, could it be the steering wheel. doesnt the steering wheel on new vauxhalls have a strong self centring force (feels like a motor trying to pull the wheel straight again, could it be that playing up)
is it belt driven pump?
give the fluid a bleed if the problem isnt obvious (if u cant see a leak)
dunno f its belt driven,i'll check the fluid level first and for leaks then bleed it( any ideas how i go bout that ?)
to bleed it take the cap of the reservior with the engine running and turn the wheel from lock to lock several times
cheers ill try that in the morning
after fndin the power steering fluid bottle under the drivers side wheel arch(stupid place to put it) i bled the system and topped up the fluid all seems to be running well now! must of been an airlock.
thanks for all your help and advice on this tis much appreciated
cheers
glad to be of assistance mate, wonder how it got there, u been driving down any big ass hills lately?
not that i can think of matey ??
