On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July, Albert Dock comes alive once more to swashbuckling and skullduggery as the annual Liverpool Pirate Festival returns.

This year's festival promises plenty of pirates and privateers with the boom of cannons and clash of swords reverberating around the Dock. You can step aboard pirate vessels, be spectator to sensational sword duels and meet the notorious buccaneers from history and learn their amazing stories. For those with a taste for the more fantastical, there'll be a chance to meet the most famous (fictional) pirate of all, Captain Jack Sparrow. Young adventurers can even follow our Pirate Treasure Trail and seek out clues leading to the lost treasure of 'Calico' Jack Rackham.

The weekend will also include cannon and musket displays, authentic 18th century encampments giving visitors a fascinating insight into how people lived and survived in these times, and real birds of prey, all interwoven with lively folklore and authentic sea shanties. Visitors are also urged to come dressed up in their finest pirate gear, whatever their age! Around the Albert Dock, the many restaurants and shops promise to get you into the plundering pirate spirit.

We'll have the young pirates costume parade, Pirate Sloop and King's Navy Cutter displays plus pirate music and shanties around the Dock. The Highlight of each day will be the dramatic, live action cannon battle between the vessels in the Dock, when the pirate sloop Vilma takes on the privateer brigantine Zebu. Master of ceremonies throughout the festival will be the notorious Black Jack Connan, who will keep you informed about what to see and do around the Dock. Be sure to listen out for him.
