LIVERPOOL’S annual Merchant Navy Day will be celebrated on Sunday with a commemoration service at Our Lady and St Nicholas – the Seamen’s Church – in Chapel Street, opposite the Royal Liver Building, at 12pm, conducted by the Reverend Steven Brookes.

Led by a band and massed standards, there will be a parade to another shorter service at the Pier Head at 1pm.

Merchant Navy veterans will be joined by high commissioners and naval attaches from many countries linked with the Port of Liverpool, including Norway and Canada, plus the Lord Mayor of Liverpool and mayors of the Merseyside boroughs.
