The streets of Liverpool will be transformed into a giant Formula One race track in an event organised by the Duke of Westminster's company, Grosvenor.

The property development firm built the £2bn Liverpool ONE shopping centre and plans to mark its second anniversary with an event called the "Liverpool Pageant of Power".
Part of the city centre will be closed on the evening of May 25 to allow Formula One cars to race through the streets.

The event will also include displays of speedboats, motorbikes, an airshow, classic cars, and a 100mph JCB dragster
The Liverpool pageant will act as a preview to Cholmondeley Pageant of Power which is to be staged in July at Cholmondeley Castle at Malpas, Cheshire.
James Hall, the event director, said: "We have been having very detailed discussions with the highways authorities about closing roads on 24th May.
"It will be an evening event and there is a blueprint from the Tall Ships and other events that shows this can be done with minimal disruption to traffic and the working of the city.
"All the shops and restaurants will be open and we are confident that it will be a nice, safe and friendly environment for families to come and enjoy."

Do the cars have hub caps omg, anyway lets hope the cars stay on the road and don't fly off in to the spectators.

Breaking news......

scouseRS JOIN FERRARI

"The Ferrari F1 team fired their entire pit crew."Says REUTERS

This announcement followed Ferrari's decision to take advantage of the British government's 'Work for your Dole' scheme and employ some Liverpudlian youngsters.

The decision to hire them was brought about by a recent documentary on how unemployed youths from Toxteth were able to remove a set of wheels in less than 6 seconds without proper equipment, whereas Ferrari's existing crew could only do it in 8 seconds with millions of pounds worth of high tech equipment.

It was thought to be an excellent, bold move by the Ferrari management team as most races are won and lost in the pits, giving Ferrari an advantage over every other team.

However, Ferrari got more than they bargained for! At the crew's first practice session, not only was the scouse pit crew able to change all four wheels in under 6 seconds but, within 12 seconds, they had re-sprayed, re-badged and sold the car to the Mclaren team for 8 cases of Stella, a bag of weed and some photos of Lewis Hamilton's bird in the shower

I understand that this event seems to be over a few days? Anyone know which 'date' the f1 cars will feature?

It seems that it is only one day (or possibly evening) and parts of Liverpool will be closed just after rush hour. Nothing is totally confirmed according to the latest details I can find.

Had a phenomenal time!! Gutted I missed the boats but I couldn't miss the cars and bikes. The wingwalkers were amazing!! My stomach was sinking watching them raftl I stink of petrol and exhaust fumes but it's a lovely smell. The JCB was fantastic and the Chieftan doing a semi-wheelie was brilliant!

John McGuinness shook my hand so I'm a happy girl tonight happy

Bring on the main one in July!!

I had a great time.

From where I was (at the turning point at the end by James St) it was great to see them as they waited.

The guy in the white mk2 Escort was very entertaining! I have pics on my camera I will upload at some point when I'm at home!!

ithought it was good. more people turned up than expected. we were by the ventilation shaft. we managed to get to the front eventually as the cars came round again so people who had seen them left.
We were right opposite the Hilton and had the same thing - as people left we moved forward.

Mmmm! Not good!
There's talk of it becoming an annual event I guess it depends on how many people visit the main event at Cholmondly ( raftl to those that were there and got sick to death of hearing about who was sponsoring the event) having seen last night.

Posted By: Wench Re: Liverpool Pageant of Power - 25 May 2010 - 26th May 2010 3:20pm
It annoyed me too raftl I have to say that they were saying that there was no car racing locally - this annoyed me more as New Brighton has the Prom Stages Rally. I've read some of the comments on the Echo website and have to say that they must have been at a different event than I.

I hope it does become an annual event as it was great. My only complaint is that the boats were on at the same time (ish) as the cars and I didn't get to see them raftl
Posted By: starakita Re: Liverpool Pageant of Power - 25 May 2010 - 26th May 2010 9:18pm
we didnt get to see the boats either. if it comes back next year were going a bit earlier.
