Please can you help me. I'm trying to find a variety of tomato called Cavendish Perfection or Wallasey tomatoes.

I have an allotment in Wallasey and took over this plot last year from a 90year old man who couldn't cope with it any more. He was visiting us yesterday and asked me if I was growing any Wallasey Tomatoes. I had to tell him that I wasn't and he was very disappointed. He told me that they were grown en masse in the market gardens on Leasowe Rd when the transatlantic ships used to sail to America when Liverpool was a major port. Apparently they were prized for their flavour and how long they lasted onboard ship

I would love to grow these tomatoes not just to make an elderly man very happy but to keep up the tradition. One of the other plot holders told me that their real name was Cavendish Perfection tomatoes but were locally refered to as Wallasey tomatoes.
Any information you can find out will be very gratefully received.

I remember my dad telling me about Wallasey tomatoes, he said they were the most tasty toms ever. He used to have an allotment in Central Park opposite the Rose and Crown in Poulton and he grew them there. He hasn't got the allotment now but he still grows stuff in the garden. I'll try and get some info from him for you.

Vicky , did you have any luck locating / growing the Wallasey tomato ?

If so are they as good as claimed ?

Has anyone managed to source seeds for Cavensdish Perfection tomatoes? I would like to have a go at growing them this year, if they are available.

I have not found any variety called Cavendish Perfection but I have found a heritage variety called just Cavendish and will be growing them this year. I will probably have one or two plants spare when I have potted on the seedlings I am growing.

I have had no callers for the Cavendish seedlings....will be planting the spares in my garden tomorrow unless someone shouts.
If anyone is interested, email me on [email protected]

Hi Vicky

Did you ever find out about Cavendish perfection tomatoes? An old friend of ours set us the task of asking around (he’s nearly 80 and his dad grew them, and he’s wanting to see if he can source seeds/ plants to grow)

I know it’s not quite the right time of year though

Thanks ever so much
Rikki x
