Looking for a Diesel Estate Style car with a bit of grunt, not too old with no more than 80000 miles.

something along the lines of a 2.2 Sri Vectra.

thanks

hmmmm good choice, a nice vr4, but a v6 and a thirsty one at that !
Posted By: Waddi Re: Performance Estate - 24th Nov 2007 10:41pm
very nice Pompus, proberbly thirsty and parts may be hard and expensive to come by, aswell as styling/tuning mods.
Posted By: Davey_Martin Re: Performance Estate - 24th Nov 2007 10:51pm
styling tuning and parts will probs be a lot easier than u expect... more about how much this guzzles id expect would be an issue... with the weight and all... are they not 4x4 the vr4's?

How many crisp pound notes do you have to spend?
Posted By: Waddi Re: Performance Estate - 27th Nov 2007 10:12pm
at the moment, zilch, as my car has just gone bang, splutter, cough, and is currently not in a salable state. It runs enough to get me to work and back but has no power/acceleration and maxs out at 4000Rpm whilst having a splutter at 3500Rpm.

Vauxcare have so far:
replaced Coilpack and spark plugs.
Replaced EGR valve

and it going back on thursday for them to have another play.

DOH

AFM?

Disconnect it - if it makes a difference then its maybe not that, or its not totally knackered - if it makes no difference, you know where the fault is. I know Nissan and Ford AFM's, when they go, they make the car very lumpy, and max out at 3500-4000rpm as a limp home mode...

they're prob all well known probs that can be sorted easily, and considerin the number sold, this prob counts as a minute percentage of that, it happens with all cars mate..
Posted By: vw_kyle Re: Performance Estate - 28th Nov 2007 4:54pm
i no mate but everyone i no have had peroblems with them
Posted By: MattLFC Re: Performance Estate - 28th Nov 2007 5:01pm
There has always been questions over the reliability of Vectra's, but when they work they are fantastic cars! Given the amount sold, there probably is a high number of problems compared to some marques. And GM mass production (like Ford) isnt as refined as other marques due to them having little money and making so many lol.

Sorry to hear bout ye problems Waddi, hope ye get em sorted. Ill keep me eye out for a Estate for ye.

Vectras are a nightmare to work on as well frown

TBH the Vectra is not what I would consider a "Performance" car. Ive had loads as Hire cars, and the steering is light and vaigue, they suffer from understeer, the gearbox is like stirring a pan of bolts, and the driving position hurts my back.

Depending on how much performance you want, consider a Civic Areo Deck VTi - 1.8, 167bhp, Impreza Wagon, Volvo T5...

Ford and Vauxhall dont do "performance estates", just estates with more beefy engines....

OK, basically, My CAT is knackered, My EGR valve went and dumped aload of crap onto in.

As soon as I give any revs it stalls.

Its currently in the hands of VauxCare Wirral awaiting surgery.

part alone is £300, nono

waddi, i aint never known any one to take this long to choose a dam car, your best bet mate is to buy the auto trader and read through it page by page, if you see some thing you like then investigate it further on the internet !!!

I was all set to sell the astra to get the funds for a new motor, and the engine management light came on, had the coil pack replaced, it was sorted, then the em light came on again about a week later, EGR valve replaced, but that never solved the problem, after a big of investigation from VauxCare, we found that the when the EGR valve had gone it had dumped a load of shite onto the Cat and caused it to collapse causing loss of power, maxing out a 4k rpm as stated above, new cat is £300, so decided to look around for a second hand one or a cheaper new one, but then on the way to work last night, cough cough splutter splutter, the cat completely packed in, and I lost all revs near to spital train station.

RAC came out this morning and towed it to VauxCare were I am going to have to bite the bullet and pay the £300 for a new Manifold with cat.
