I'll try an keep this as short as possible.
Somebody has rang a local car dismantlers and asked to pick a car up for scrap they came and took my car from infront of my mums garage with no keys or logbook after five o'clock on thurs and claim they crushed it the same day without taking anythink off it the car was an escort GTI with full leather interior in perfect condition an a few other extras worth keepin I'v allready been to the police and they are looking into finding the person who claimed they owned the car but say there is nothing I can do about the car dismantlers but the way I see it its them that either stole my car or handled stolen goods. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I am amazed that the police say they cannot act against the dismantlers as they (dismantlers) are obliged to obtain the registration documents prior to removing the car.Get back to the police and tell the story again and advise your insurance company.

Happened to my cousin, nothing the police can do, people are free to just go and collect and crush cars as they please.

They did however get charged with handling stolen goods as they kept the bucket seats from the car. There's a thread on here somewhere about it.

Stolen ford probe, he lost out. The laws an ass when it comes to this, the victim gets the blame, excuse being "car should of been insured, taxed and mot'd".

Crap but true, that's how they see it.

A car of that size is worth roughly £150.
You need to find out if any money changed hands
If not why not and if so who too

Is your mums garage on her land or directly connected to the road ? If it is connected to the road and no sorn in place maybe Dvla have arranged it's collection and destruction.

This sounds like either a practical joke gone too far or some form of revenge.

This is great news. Tonight i'm going to whip a few cars off of their driveways and if the police catch me ill simply tell them I had a phone call asking me to take them, so i did.

Fantastic.....

Wow this is amazing! I see no difference in this than stealing a car because someone told me to! Amazing. The fact that the cars value is probably so low (no offence) that your excess won't even cover it is an additional kick in the nuts.

I have a friend who works in traffic so I'm gonna ask him about this see what he says

Dont they need paper work to scrap a car. Just as if you where selling it. The DVLA need to be notified.

I had a car towed away a few years ago for scrap before. They didnt ask for the paperwork, they informed the DVLA.

At the time when I was going through the ads for scrap cars most state that they inform the DVLA for you. Might have changed since then though.

Its even more of a loss because the car was not insured it was off the road for a while because it needed work I couldn't afford at the time so now I'v just got to rely on our great justice system to get me some justice but my plan is to try an take the car dismantlers to a small claims court if I can. Thanks for all the posts wiki peeps

Make sure you inform the DVLA that the car has been scrapped, either letter or V5. You dont want that biting you in the ass if you forget.

Yeah make sure DVLA know. My Dad had a Primera Stolen from Wallasey Village 13 years ago. 10 Years later he got a parking ticket from Swansea council LOL. Straight up and true.

Good luck mate, it was a nice looking car, people don't appreciate it's real value as they haven't got a clue.

Hope you can sort this out.

I really feel sorry for you , and hope you sort this out .
The main reason I'm commenting is that I love the escort gti especially in white
I would love to get my hands on one myself .

Thanks for all the posts guys I can only hope I get some well deserved justice but I have to admit my faith in the legal system is a bit low in this case but failing that I do have the guys name and address wink wink. Only jokin of course.
