well well well. my new motor. u heard a bit about her already. 1988 5dr, grey full service history an a few extras from factory. she looks alitlle raw now but i think shes gonna b a monster. last owner claimed 205bhp, 0-60 6.37sec but i dont no. all i no is shes a fast 1. she drinks petrol like homer drinks duff £25 quid nearly back from birmingham yesterday. i dont no how tupac worked this out mr officer think but he recons 110mph is around 4000revs so i think shes gud 4 140mph+.
savin a bit o cash now for paint and a little tlc but hope to have her ready 4 ultimate street car at the pod were i think u will c me a tupac rippin up the strip in a bit o a contest. lsd and extra bhp shud help me but tupac is a quality driver so i wud think it will b close.
cannot wait.

Shud i go cheaper option or what?

springs r -60mm @£100ish
or springs n dampers £250ish

is -60 to low. oooo i dont no!!!!!
Posted By: spinking Re: dikky5 bmw 325i - 30th Apr 2005 1:18pm
Mine rides on lowered springs 60mm and standard shocks not a good idea. 60mm is a good drop but the inside of my tyres are getting a little worn you can drop them 80mm if you run 14" wheels or 15" on low pro tyres.
Posted By: lawton Re: dikky5 bmw 325i - 30th Apr 2005 1:27pm
i say go for the springs and dampers as you will get a better ride quality. its defo worth spending the extra cash
Posted By: Anonymous Re: dikky5 bmw 325i - 30th Apr 2005 2:28pm
60mm on springs and dampers, if you go for just springs your dampers will not last very long

make sure there enough clearence for the tyres too so you dont get dreaded rubbing, if it rubs on the insides of the arch then possible put spacers on to push the wheels out a little possibly??

hth smile
Posted By: scoop Re: dikky5 bmw 325i - 30th Apr 2005 5:45pm
dikky, anythin more than 30mm should be accompanied by dampers aswell. Also ur handling will become worse if u dont get the dampers and itll bottom out dead easy. Get the dampers and itll be rock solid on its butt

There are few spoilers out there that look good on e-30's m-tec look good and verysmall one's like mine but there are some very good ones out there. on road. back from usc i luv her. pretty powerfull just gettin grip was trikky on the track. most runs i were still spinnin in second gear!!!!! doh!!!! lukkd n sounded cool doin a 1/4 mile burnout but werent fast te he.

got better as weekend went on, 17.6sec 1st run (v smoky tires n squeely) then 5 runs later a 16.1 (only spinnin in 1st gear). soooooo much fun cant wait till next year. i want 325 sport gearbox and lsd n racin slicks 2. n tats about that. just so u guys have a comparison a lad i met had a 325 sport which ran 16.3s consistantly and a 1 off 15.9. 3rd gear killd me. its just to far away the ratio to carry any power through. Posted By: dikky5 Re: dikky5 bmw 325i - 14th Sep 2005 10:32pm
i mean lose power as in box isnt exact size as bmw wanted for back pressure so i rekon i willlose maximum bhp. however i wud think as exhaust is high flow i rekon i will get better throttle responce and freer reving performance.

"in car adjustable boost"

which means manual boost controller which means make your engine explode faster

Stick with the BM dikky, the 5 will only blow up all the time, you'll never make it to the end of a tank of petrol without something breaking on it thumbsdown
Posted By: dikky5 Re: dikky5 bmw 325i - 18th Sep 2005 7:43pm
5s only blow up cos they boil ova. i.e traffic jams, long trips. this can be aided by

1. good ventilation 2 engine
2. putting the fan operation on a switch. this means u can have the fan on constantly which cud help me stay cool.

i dunno what 2 do. hes askd me 4 pikkys iv sentem n asd him 4 pikkys o dat 1.mmm. we will c.

by the way any1 no wtf a hybrid turbo is? i aint a clue.

No its not. A hybrid turbo is one that is made with better blades and stronger parts. I don't know all the ins and outs but theyre generally used for more power. StuyMac or Adam will know more about it. Ask them!

Posted By: scoop Re: dikky5 bmw 325i - 18th Sep 2005 10:19pm
What is a Hybrid Turbo?

A hybrid turbocharger combines the quick boost response required at low engine revs, with the extra air-flow capacity needed for more power at higher revs - with excellent Turbo Technics reliability.

Hybrid turbochargers are not a new idea. Turbo Technics started producing hybrids as long ago as 1985, and today continues to lead this specialised field. A language has even evolved to describe the components employed in hybrid turbos - words such as cut-back, 360°, screw-down and quick release.

But what does it all mean?

For most road going cars, a standard specification, good quality Service Exchange Turbocharger is sufficient. Hybrid turbos only become necessary when significant performance improvement is required, normally on a modified engine. Most hybrid turbochargers will look identical to standard units from the outside. The changes occur inside, by using different aerodynamic configurations, both in the compressor and turbine housings.

As a Garrett turbo dealer, Turbo Technics are in a unique position to choose from a comprehensive range of components. This allows our engineers to "blueprint" turbocharger components to achieve the desired characteristics needed for a particular application. Obviously there are limits, but this ability sets Turbo Technics apart from others in producing very effective hybrid turbos. Most turbocharged engines respond well to increased boost pressure, but only if the engine is modified to capitalise on the change. The same can be said of turbochargers. A hybrid turbo on a standard engine may offer a small benefit, but will be more effective on a modified engine. Unfortunately, increasing the boost pressure also increases the internal loading within the turbocharger significantly. In order to compensate for this, a "screwed down" thrust bearing is sometimes used. This prevents the bearing from "lifting" at high load which can lead to oil starvation and component failure.

To continue up the hybrid ladder of performance, a "360°" thrust bearing is used. This is an entirely new bearing, manufactured by Turbo Technics, and originally developed for our competition customers, such as Ford Motorsport. It has a greater bearing contact face to withstand the high loads, which would otherwise destroy a standard bearing very quickly. Turbo Technics will occasionally specify a "cut-back" shaft wheel. This is the main exhaust-driven turbine wheel inside the turbocharger. To limit its speed to acceptable, reliable levels, and to improve the airflow, the blades are "cut back". This is a very high precision machining operation, requiring highly accurate grinding and balancing. The Turbo Technics designed and manufactured VSR balancing machine ensures that exact limits are achieved every time, regardless of the vehicle to which the turbo will be fitted, from the humble Mondeo turbo diesel to a full works Group A' Escort Cosworth.

Another way in which a hybrid turbocharger can improve an engine's performance is by improving response, or reducing turbo lag. By designing a more efficient turbocharger compatible with the engine's characteristics, Turbo Technics offer hybrid turbos which can transform a cars driveability.

The Turbo Technics range of hybrid turbochargers are also available throughout the UK Dealer Network. But beware of copies!

Some imitation hybrids are cheaper, but when inspected are found to contain only standard internal components! Only Turbo Technics turbos carry an identification plate to guarantee the genuine article.

Sums it up really. Hybrid for example would be a Renault 5 standard turbo but with an uprated ceramic turbine or stuff like that. I say get the 5 mate. U cant beat turbod motors. But then again,it looks like a bit of a worse for wear 5. Theres much better out there. And ur gonna give him a BMW 325 for that? i wouldnt. Get a standard minter if you can. My 2p
