This car is immaculate. 91000 miles. Not a spot of rust on the arches or sills, obviously garaged all its life, few touch ups on the paint from little scrapes but these will be blown over properly soon.

Found out I can get 130BHP+ from the 1.6 with a little bit of work. The 1.8 I have will get fitted to this and I'll have that running 150+ easy in a year I think
Posted By: Dazza Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 15th Jul 2005 7:15pm
No you cant get 130BHP+ with a little work at all scoopster my friend, thats a 1.8 engine.

Get some pics on lad
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 15th Jul 2005 7:26pm
Met a guy on E-bay who had his 1.6 runnin 130 on the rollin road,im buyin his stuff thus i will get his power levels. Aint exactly a small amount of work but it is possible.150+ with a trip to burton aswell.I will put the 1.8 in soon and keep all these cool mods so the 1.8 will run well over 160
Posted By: Meesh Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 15th Jul 2005 7:29pm
if i did all the work properly on my 1.6 engine i'd be lucky to get over the 100BHP mark

I'm with Daz on this one sorry bud, doubt very much you'd get 130 brake outta the 1.6 engine
Posted By: aceritz Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 15th Jul 2005 7:49pm
especially with a name like snoopy
you need to give it lsd to get that much power
Posted By: Cali_16v Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 15th Jul 2005 9:55pm
would need major work for that kind of power

Yeah sorry meesh but ur engine would need an awful lot of work just to reach 90BHP(my figure already)This is gonna be done properly with lots of advice from the experts such as burton power. I think it will eventually involve the 1.8 bein overbored to 1950CC with forged pistons, rods, and crank, lightened flywheel, race clutch and maybe even a low pressure turbo. AM I MAD? maybe.all depends on costItd be great to have an ST170 beating escort

GTI spats won on E-bay. Should be here tomorrow at latest
[Linked Image]

2.0l throttle body in hammerite blue won from ebay, should be here next week
[Linked Image]

2.0 Air flow meter in hammerite blue won off E-bay, should be here next week also
[Linked Image]

Another plan for this car is a stage 2 flamer kit
Posted By: SL1D3R Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 17th Jul 2005 6:45pm
sounds good that mate! get some pics up of ya new machine!
Posted By: Dazza Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 17th Jul 2005 7:58pm
Painted in Hammerite? Be careful with that, if the hotwire on the MAF is touched it gives a false reading

You do know that the chances are your fueling will be messed up and you'll have idle problems by fitting these parts?

Before you tell me some jibberish and say that am wrong look into it, the 1.6 doesnt take to the 2.0 parts - some models can support the 2.0 TB but thats it

and not a chance you'll get 130BHP from a 1.6 with 'simple' mods - Id do what iv always told you can stop messin round and get a bigger engine
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 17th Jul 2005 9:12pm
Never heard of specialised engines,or burton power?? 2K would get me a stage 3 1.8 ZETEC mate and thats bound to be punchin 200 BHP and indestructable components. And im not even after half that. I only want a 40BHP gain. Although i am thinin about nitrous now to give those 200+ boys a scare at the lights

I have 128.7bhp@6930 revs and 120 lbs.ft torque @ 4040 revs with the following mods to the same type of engine that your playing with.

K&N Induction kit,
Mk 2 Mondeo Throttle Body & MAF Unit
Piper 'Fast Road' cams
Pumaspeed 4-2-1 manifold
Magnex 4" round exhaust
Decat
FSE Power Boost Valve
Unichip

thats 128 tho and will be at the fly, i love when people lie bout figures, you cant polish a turd, stop living the the clouds with snoopy the more power you got to start with in the first place the bigger the gains you can expect to see. so start with a bigger engine and stop raving on like you doing this next week, you know you wont do this
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 17th Jul 2005 11:26pm
Unlike a lot of people i dont chat balls. What i say i want i get. Remember im one of the people hu actually does stuff to cars. I dont have a 300 pound car with a massive sub in. I spunked 7 grand on my last one and this next one will be a GTI/XR3i beating car in all departments. Not goin nuts on the ICE tho. May even leave the sub out and just get a small one in a tiny box. My current sub weighs 25-30KG in its box. Thats like a 8 year old kid in the boot all the time

Guy has emailed me sayin the wire was removed for painting and he advises me to stick my own wire in there anyway just to be sure. Ive emailed a proper tuning company aswell to get their opinion on what is the best way to get 150+. Also u have to remember the insurance will jump when i get a transplant. Great thing is my insurance dont need to know about some of my mods as they are uber subtle, GTI kit wont get questioned as it dont look aftermarket.Same with the wheels. I think they wudda even been options on the Si

Posted By: rossi-foci Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 18th Jul 2005 12:04pm
Aside from all that, the SI's scorts are nice motors!

Might i point out one thing....I thought you were struggling for insurance?! You couldnt do such mods and not tell the insurance and surely such a "tuned" engine would result in insurance rocketing? Why not get a bigger engine in the first place?
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 18th Jul 2005 12:15pm
This will happen over time and hopefully the insurance wont go too mad with each mod. We will just have to see. Insurance renewal is due in under a month so i may give the performance specialists a try???
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 18th Jul 2005 2:14pm
Spats have arrived! problem is the factory ford mudguards have scuffed the paint where they sit against the bumper. Also the bumper has a spot where it has been touched up. Thinkin about spraying the whole rear bumper when i spray the spats?
Ill give it a good wash and try to T-cut the scuffs out. The touch up will get re-done and see if it makes it go away. Do all this at the weekend if i have 30 quid spare to get all the materials for spraying. Spats are in A1 condition and genuine RS items too

The 1.6 CVH motor put out 96bhp in std form when new, and 140bhp+ was gettable with big carbs, a cam, and big valve head.

The newer 1.6 motors arent as tunable due to the ECU and the electronic ingnition is much harder to draw a few gee gees from frown

Theres no substitute for capacity - if your gonna do anything go 2.0, though any drastic gains from std will be expensive due to the std engine managment frown

Good luck though, good to see you back with another car!
Posted By: saz2004 Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 18th Jul 2005 2:45pm
good to hear ya back moddin and sounds like ya got loads of plans!!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 18th Jul 2005 2:49pm
1.6 Zetec has smaller than average pistons too which limit it capability.

For the money everythings going cost it'd be much cheaper to put a 2.0 zetec put in and then you've got power as standard and a better gain in torque as well cool
Posted By: AX_125 Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 18th Jul 2005 2:55pm
would you not be better leaving it standard, saving your money and buying a sports car in a few years with you saved money?

IMO a fast car as standard is ten times better than a slow car made to look/go faster.

Hence why i am saving up for a DC5 Teg
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 18th Jul 2005 3:18pm
1.8JEST ECU may get dropped in?
Im researchin this as we speak and if it works the engine will be fed a little bit more fuel/air thus giving a tiny few more gee gee's. Found loadsa cool Ford owners clubs where a lot of people are tuning all sorts of ford engines to the nines. 2.0ltr would be nice but if i did do it that means ive wasted money on the 1.8 ive bought and the insurance will be just CRAZY. Also the 2.0ltr fit needs a lot of work as the ECU is incompatable unless the loom is totally adapted. And I'd like to see Rennies face when he is blown away by a 1600 hahaha. or an 1800. Depends how the 1800 is these days and if i can just swap the block or not. Pullin two engines is gonna be pap
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 18th Jul 2005 3:36pm
Problem is the ECU is restrictive, fit a 1.8 ecu to a 1.6 motor, and you get fueling problems. Ideally a custom ECU is better, or even new managment, but Ill take a stab at new managment costing more than the car lol

2.0, Filter, zorst, cams and some head work wink
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 18th Jul 2005 3:54pm
New plan

1.8 engine in and 1.8 ECU with Chip
2.0 Cams 2.0 TB and 2.0 MAF
BMC carbon air box, FSE boost valve and full zorst inc de-cat(pumaspeed manifold is a maybe)
Few more little bits as i learn more etc..
Should get me easily over 130(XR3 power)

Flamer kit is a must have. Body and interior need work first tho so the engine wont be touched really (apart from the TB/MAF) until i got that sorted
Posted By: SL1D3R Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 18th Jul 2005 7:08pm
just stop arsin around and get the car u really want.... a pug 106 everyone shud have one!
Posted By: Sanchez Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 18th Jul 2005 7:53pm
listen to stuy, 2.0 litre lump, more power, more tourque etc, you then dont have to touch the engine again and put the rest of your cash in to its looks. from MY personal point of view thats what you should do. Trust me scoop i spent alot of money on silly things for my engine that done sod all.

[/QUOTE]The 1.6 CVH motor put out 96bhp in std form when new, and 140bhp+ was gettable with big carbs, a cam, and big valve head.[/QB][/QUOTE]

I did them mods to my mk2 xr2 gave standard rs boys a run for there money.

Didnt know the power gain was that much wish i had kept her now.
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 20th Jul 2005 3:51pm
2.0TB and MAF have arrived along with a spare 1.6 TB from the guy. Think ill put them on and see how the car behaves. The TB doesnt look any bigger anyway. The actual thing is bigger but the bore of the inside and the butterfly look exactly the same as the spare 1.6 one he gave me?

We will see how it goes

Also just had an incredible idea. Ill take the 1.8 intake tract and stick it on the 1.6 thus keeping the air cooler as the 1.8 intake doesnt run over the rocker cover,it goes round the engine bay. Bosch
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 20th Jul 2005 3:57pm
Will the ECU work with the bigger MAF and TB confused

And if it "works" will it adapt to the increased air volume they will flow?
Posted By: lazy_ben Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 20th Jul 2005 4:31pm
There's no replacement for displacement.
Posted By: dikky5 Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 20th Jul 2005 4:55pm
truth is scoop. its a 1.6. if u want a more powerfull output than 90bhp get a bigget engine. 4get all ur fanyin around m8y. i dont think u wud b impressd with the results.

and the truth is even if u did get power gains it will stil b a 1.6 escort just a whole lot more un reliable.
Posted By: Dazza Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 20th Jul 2005 9:25pm
If you stick 2.0 MAF and TB it will send the ECU to **** - and even if it doesnt it wont know how to handle the different weight loads. Scoop as said many times over you can get that power gain by sticking a 2.0 in it, a 2.0 with a Unichip and uprated leads and iridium plugs will produce roughly 160BHP (This varies engine to engine)

Say you spent 1k doing this, its 160BHP. Or u can plough alot more into the 1.6 - Put it this way Kent cams cost about £500 no matter what zetec it is, and Unichips are £475 so theres ya grand already
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 20th Jul 2005 10:49pm
Getting the bold out now to say

The 1.6 will be ok with the new TB and MAF as they dont look any bigger TBH,if they are its only slightly. And if the ECU does get confused ill fit the 1800 ECU as that likes higher quantities of air/fuel

U can stick ur 2.0 up ya fappin battyhoop

Look at ALL the money ive spent? 30 quid on the TB and MAF that will also fit my 1.8

Induction kit im buying fits BOTH engines so when i can insure the 1.8 the transplant will be made
Same with the zorst
Same with an FSE

The 1.8 ECU will be unichipped to the 1.8 engine and cams possibly added

Also the mondie 2.0 has to be runnin the 1.8JEST ECU to be unichipped mr 1.6 managed 2.0

Dont talk to me about ECU problems

Rant over
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 21st Jul 2005 1:04pm
And to add to that
YES i know about PATS and YES i know how to bypass it
Posted By: Cali_16v Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 22nd Jul 2005 12:57pm
bloody hell all this over a ford. go for looks sod the engine. its only worth doing if its 2.0 or bigger.
Posted By: aceritz Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 22nd Jul 2005 1:46pm
engine transplant from a 1.6 to a 1.8, money well spent there mate
each to there own
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 22nd Jul 2005 2:51pm
I have a 1.8 in my possesion thats why im sticking that in. It costs nothing to do as its not a hard job with the right knowledge.
2.0 insurance would be too much
1.8 insurance will be peachy
1.8 is EASILY "tuned" to give 140 using 130 spec cams/TB/MAF from XR3/2.0 engines with a live mapped chip (£420) and full zorst,FSE and BMC

That is why IM doing thi to my car. Thanks for your opinions but it is just NOT feasable to go for a 2.0.
With a 2.0 i would lose my liscence in a week as those things can fly with a fettling. Which i know i would do
Posted By: Cali_16v Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 22nd Jul 2005 3:01pm
remember mods will make your insurace go higher than with a standard 2.0

Gonna spray my interior next weekend hopefully. What is a good shade of blue. Thinkin about imperial blue from the cossie,or this "electric blue" that ive seen a few modded motors wearing. Good thing is I can spray the bits from the 1.8Si and then smack them into MY car.So my car doesnt need to be without a dash for 2 days. Yay
Posted By: aceritz Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 22nd Jul 2005 5:42pm
we have concluded from your above post that it is YOUR car
this is not an instruction, but blue would be a good idea for YOUR car

used CAPS cos i have the 2 Si's so i thort to save confussion ill refer to the write off as the 1.8Si and my 1.6Si that i drive as MY car
Any idea of a shade? Is saxo blue nice?the blue thats on th VT's

Posted By: Dazza Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 22nd Jul 2005 6:20pm
2.0 ECU's run internal EDOS whereas Fiesta/Escort use external hence why it ran off 1.6 management

If the 2.0 mangament COULD fit the escort dont u think i would have used it? Considering I had a whole car for parts.
Posted By: aceritz Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 22nd Jul 2005 6:28pm
o, wots happened here then, wot else you going to do with your car
Posted By: Cali_16v Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 22nd Jul 2005 8:15pm
have first hand experiance will always win over word of mouth. i think you should style the car. or keep it standard for a while until you have saved for a proper engine transplant and stick in a gti or rs2000 engine. i know the 2.0 runs well with the 1.6 ecu as dazza was a fast little fairy and he was "quite" happy with it.
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 22nd Jul 2005 11:21pm
the GTI runs a 115BHP 1.8. The very sanme engine i have. The RS2k engine gets u a RS2K premium.1.8 goes in. End of discussion

Posted By: Dazza Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 24th Jul 2005 9:34pm
Just to note - This PAT bypass was in discusion for ages on FEOC and is only a new thing to be tested, it doesnt mean it will work on every wiringloom. Rennie, if it works goodluck as that'll be one hell of a best once its done but id still go for the Unichip for good measure and the extra ponies
Posted By: Rennie Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 25th Jul 2005 12:09am
i know bud im not saying that it will work just showing the link to the one i know of! its worth a try but not getting my self excited(sp?) over the it

but at this moment i cant justify spending £400+ on the car for a unichip smile
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 25th Jul 2005 7:20am
How old is the 2.0 engine. Would superchips "bluefin" fit the 2.0 ECU and alter its mapping? if it does then i say strive to get the 2.0 ECU in. If you get wiring diagrams of both ECUs and get yourself to a good auto electrician im sure they could make it fit mate. It is simple electrics, not hard to just get rid of the immobiliser all together. And i mean that. Ask any good electrician. Its possible to do anythin.

As for my car. Just met a guy from the jet bodyshop and asked if he could spray stuff for me in his spare time, he said yup as long as he does it all in a oner. So im gettin me spats and rubstips done once i have my skirts. Need to get my old car back so i can slam this Si and get me lexarse lights and interior bits back
Posted By: Dazza Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 25th Jul 2005 10:02am
They do make a Superchip for the 2.0 but that only alters the ratio of things, if a component isnt running less like it should its not gonna return the settings to OE for a 2.0
Posted By: Rennie Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 25th Jul 2005 11:33am
also theres a lad on escortevolution who has just fitted the 2.0 ecu into his 2.0 converted 1.6 so i think i will be following his guide when he writes it in the next few days!

Crystal clear side repeaters won bought today. Should be here and fitted on saturday along with the head unit,CD changer and components. Side strips will be coming off on saturday and dependin on how it looks they may be re-fitted after spraying them white
Posted By: rossi-foci Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 27th Jul 2005 7:54am
Spray the side strips and put them back on laugh

Looks much bettter on the scorts with colour coded rubstrips than non. My mate took his off, and it looks good, but i dont think as good as the gti's (i might be wrong) that have them coded!
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 27th Jul 2005 7:57am
All the GTI's ive ever seen have had them coded and they do look sweet. That GTi i was after just after i wrote the green one off was my idea of a perfect car so im emulatin that as much as possible externally. Think ive finalised my plans for the outside now

Hopefully they will make a set of aftermarket headlights for the scort soon. Not quads but the crystal clear sort. Also want ST side stripes and tints. Then a subtle well suited tailpipe. Thinkin of goin for a twin 3" round or square? Need as much performance as poss from this exhaust tho

Cheers bud. Its good to have a believer. Once ive sorted the old one out this one will begin to take shape. I get new ideas for it every day and just do not know what to do. I could go mad on it,or just give it speed and style which is what im leaning towards. No crazy install just a simple SQ install
Simple interior re-trim to be done mainly by me. Seats need a look over as they are pretty girly lookin
Brake upgrade
Tints
ST side stripes are a Go (as westwood would say)

Today i got the following sorted

Insurance renewal-10 month accelerator with elephant costing 900 quid
RAC cover costing 16 pound for full cover (thanks MOD discount)
Clear side repeaters arrived

Hopefully work will be nice and quiet so I can fit the repeaters, remove the rubstrips, remove the mudflaps and fit the neon in the boot.Try for the under dash ones aswell but not sure if i have any switches spare to turn em on and off(not gonna use dash illumintation as they draw enough current as it is)

The b@stardisation of the 1.6 is due to begin on monday hopefully.
Before u start ranting, bear this in mind. What have i got to lose?
Its a bigger list than i first planned and it should produce EVEN more power. Hopefully in excess of 100BHP!

1.8 Intake manifold
2.0 Throttle body
1.8 Intake piping and air box (box to be drilled and K&N element fitted
2.0 MAF (u shud see the size of the hole inside, its loads bigger than the 1600)

Leave it after that til the RR day which i will now try my hardest to attend. If im over 105BHP(estimated from wheels) then ill keep the 1.6 thus saving money on insurance and still having a beatuful sounding engine with more potential.

If this does work i will then get an FSE,Full zorst inc decat and possibly manifold. Then maybe CAMs (180 pound if you trade in your old ones(not bad price))and maybe something to sort the fuelling out as i suspect a chip or bluefin at this point could make it run sweet as a nut!

Fingers crossed (very tightly)

Hope it pulls off for ya mate happy
Posted By: Neon-O Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 5th Aug 2005 12:45am
You should get it tested for BHP results mate and then done again after your mods, so you know exactly what youre doin. Just make sure you get it sorted properly fella, i dont wanna see you wastin more money on stuff heheh happy
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 5th Aug 2005 12:52am
Well as long as its more than 90BHP i dont care lol. I assume it will be pushing 85+ now as its a 90BHP engine with 91k on the clock

Also,Fitted the stereo today. Just the heaqd unit for now. The stock speakers are surprisingly tight when pushed to the limit. Ive heard worse from the aftermarket ones when they were in shrek(they were loose when i removed them so they must been wobblin in the door as they were playin lol) Front componenets to go in soon
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 8th Aug 2005 5:45pm
Aaaaagghhhh the induction noize!! Fitted the 2.0MAF today and shes already developed one hell of a roar. Feels pretty much the same but the noise just begs you to put your foot down. Sounds like a different engine!

Normal driving sounds pretty normal but when you put your foot further and further down it developes a meaty induction noise under load. Im loving it!!

The 1.8 intake manifold 2.0TB and 1.8 intake tract with swiss cheese airbox will be adapted to the car by next monday hopefully! Doing it myself. Got the bits, got the tools, got the knowhow i hope

Scoop, sorry to bring this up again, but its really confusing me how fitting this AFM actually increases power without any changes to the ECU confused

Ive done various AFM changes in the past, and on each occasion needed somesort of managment to change the signal to the ECU. They basically work on the principal of a hotwire, meaning the wire is heated and the air flowing over the wire causes the wire to cool and alters the conduction properties which the ecu measures for fueling.

Even if the AFM is a bigger bore, how does it know that the voltage range has been changed (Do you have the Voltage ranges for the 2 AFMs to compair confused )

Without telling the ECU that the ranges have been changed I cant see anyway that the car can produce anymore power.

Not being funny fella, just finding it a little hard to get my head round confused
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 15th Aug 2005 2:33pm
The sensor unit fitted to the top is the same one from the old MAF. Heres what i think is happening

The bigger MAF is allowing more air to flow thru into the engine, this is cooling the hot wire more, the ECU is being told this by the sensor and increasing fuel to compensate, it is only ever so slight (and i mean tiny) and there is no noticable difference.............but i bought this cos it was cheap and it deffo increases the induction noise!

Cant wait to get the 1800 in and tune that to the balls. This MAF aint a 2.0 MAF as it turns out. Its bigger than my old one but the 1.8 MAF is bigger than this one. May be from an old ass 1.8 i think
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 15th Aug 2005 2:46pm
I hear what your saying matey, but due to the bigger AFM being able to cope with more air, and cool the wire down even more, you need to make sure it doesnt reach is minimum voltage range for the ECU. If this happens the car will let more air in that it can monitor, and although it will be thowing extra fuel in, it will only throw the max in for the old, smaller AFM because thats where its voltage range will finish, and cause the car to run lean frown
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 15th Aug 2005 2:52pm
doubt its that bad matey lol. Valves will only flow so much anyway so no matter what i do im never gonna increase the airflow by that much. The 1600 is gettin binned soon and if i do some damage by runnin lean then its just an excuse to put the 1.8 in earlier. Doubt very very much that this will happen tho
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 16th Aug 2005 5:00pm
Airbox drilled now in all the right places and stupid extra box built onto side(think its a vacuum box) has been offed. The noise now is god dam loud under load. Makes me squirt thick sexy wee.Seriously tho it sounds like it has a monster of an induction kit. And with a K&N panel on there it will be even better and actually give a performance upgrade without doubt IMO. It has too. Maybe only half a gee gee (lol) but it cant drop in power?

Next mod will be sprayin the dash AMPARO BLUE. This is a chop of shreks dash but you get the idea of how it will look. Had my doubts before the chop and thought itd clash with the darkness of the dash but itll be reet. Also got the paint etc to do the spats and black trim while im at it,should be done by next weekend
Posted By: jimbo4x4 Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 3rd Sep 2005 4:14pm
It'll look cool, but make sure you change the wheel if it's anything like that one! I reckon a momo fighter with blue trim would suit nicely smile

Shut up b*tch lol. Go roll your astra estate!

New things done today, thought id get off my arse and dismantle shrek.

17s are now fitted, although they look like shit, from a distance they look mint tho being black, well one wheel is fully black.May recon them adn do them black with a colour rim? But then lowering the car will make them wear every 4 months again and 600 quid a year on tires takes the cake. Also lexus rears are fitted and second fog light bulb is in (not a mod really, just makes the car look symetrical in fog lol) Shreks skirts have been forcefully removed (to get i8t jacked up without a trolly jack the skirts had to come off) small cracks in them now and the front of one has snapped off and is still in shreks arch, need to glass em back up and smooth em,then sell em

Arnt they called Altezza style lights rather than "lexus lights"?

Lexcort? Could be the next big thing... think
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 8th Sep 2005 3:01pm
Altezza / IS200 - same difference.

IS200 is the Export version, Altezza is the jap version, only difference being a tubby'd 4 cylinder engine.
Posted By: DavidB Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 8th Sep 2005 4:16pm
Aren't they badged as Toyotas over there?
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 8th Sep 2005 4:56pm
Yes over there they are toyota altezzas. The export version is the lexus IS200. not sure why as the other lexus cars dont have toyota brothers do they. They are not lexus lights, they are "lexus style lights" Only lexus's are luxus's you loon, however the IS200 rear clusters have inspired other cars to do crystal rear lights,Other lexuss and a few Mazdas for instance.

Ive put these on becasue I think they look better than the red ones ford put on.

sorry im not a fan of those type sunstrips, anyone who knows there cars will know its an escort jusy by looking at it. They dont need it smacked in their face every time they see the car, im sure it all started with SAXO VTR or SAXO VTS right across the windscreen, its like i know what your cars, why dont you put:
chaz 'n' dave

al least its different, scoop im not having a go i know what look your going for and the sunstrip is part of that look, just not my taste.

Nooooo! I hate ghia chrome grills, I think they belong on estate cars only. You should have kept the standard OR get the honeycomb grill IMO

Goodluck with the ECU swap etc - If you need any more help give me a shout.

Ive got the honeycombe ATM mate and i dont like it, IMO the ghia one is the best, may modify it in some way (trim it to an oval with no badge,or spray it white) or may just leave it. We'll see.

Not goin rally style mate, im gonna clean it up and prep it for sale next. Plan is to spray the back end,re-con the wheels, fix the parcel shelf supports and then just keep it running til i get my next car. I may or not work the engine a tad more (exhaust and chip) and i may or may not change the sunstrip for one a little more subtle (tint film)

*NEW MOD*

Got hold of a drivers side OMP 4 point harness today to see if i like em. Fitted it and..............its good and bad

Goind points
Feel safe
Strapped down tight
Looks ace
CAN drive harder and remain in FULL control (see below)

Bad points
Struggle to reach stereo
Struggle to view offside blind spot
Got a bad back within minutes from sitting so upright (i know my clubmans made me sit upright but in them i could slouch, with harnesses on i cant)(and my seat is always vertical as i like being sat up)

Took it for a test drive and it was a much more involved drive than usual, mainly cos the movements of the car didnt make me move so i always had all the controls perfectly in my hands, thru it 180 round a roundabout and was amazed at the forces i could feel trying to pull me out the seat but not moving

Fitting time-40 minutes (had to unbolt seat and lift inside edge to get at left lapstrap bolting point)

Will i be purchasing them? for the right price yes

[Linked Image]
Dis dem

Got some COBRA harnesss pads on em aswell (these(harnesses and pads) are brand new, never been fitted and one is still in the box)

I love harnesses since I naturally sit up straight and they are pointless unless your strapped in TIGHT. I can see why some people dont like them.

Maybe its time to buy a stereo with a remote control tease

ok i know a lil about this one as iv looked into it b4 iv got a 1.8 zetec running 115bhp standard and if i upgrade the cams, ecu, throttle body, fule rail, map daf to all 2l i could push 140 bhp de cat and zaust another say 5-10 bhp noz another 50 easily dont wana pust it to far so could pust it to 200bhp and for all of this you are goa need to sort some mad air intake out cause these zetec's love the cold air to much mine cant get enuff as for upgradeing engines i got a lil suprise going in my si escort next year hahahaha

de-blanded the windcreen
Rally theme
Helps get sun out of eyes (more than visors)

In birkenhead from friday night - sunday night so will try to pop down the rock on saturday and see whos out

"1.8 zetec running 115bhp standard and if i upgrade the cams, ecu, throttle body, fule rail, map daf to all 2l i could push 140 bhp"

Babybird,im not sure where u got that info but i REALLY DONT recommend using 2L sensors and fuelling parts on a 1.8

Correct 130 spec is using 130 SPEC management

Another way of getting NEAR 130BHP (and more reliably than the 130 engines, which had poor heads) is to get the 2.0 TB,2.0 cams (which are a VERY SIMILAR profile to 130 spec but not exactly the same) and chipping the ECU (unichip or collins Pchip)

Ill be getting a 2.0TB soon (i bought one from Ebay and its fitted but it looks IDENTICAL to the standard one so i think its a 1.8 one) and i may or may not get cams.

Every day i think so many different things about my car,and ATM here are my choices

Go balls out and turn it into a track capable road car(as below but also use it as main transport)
Mod a bit more (skirts, bib, tidy paint)
Run for years to spend money elsewhere (house etc)
Get rid and get the BM ASAP
Save for a BM,get the BM then garage the scort and slowly turn it into a full track toy (stripped,buckets,2.0 engine(maybe even ZT)full rally graphics job)

Oh,and CLJ,half smoked dont look good on white cars, standard look better than half smokes and lexus's on white cars but watch this space, the lexus's are getting customised, dazza will know what theyre gonna look like (white where urs where black, and chrome where theyre all chrome-inside bulb areas)

£120 later and he has a purry exhaust. Got the one from my old car adapted to fit and it cost me over 120 quid!!!!! Well pleased with the noise but cant believe a tiny bit of adaptation cost that much money.Done in a shade over 3 hrs. Sounds incredible, but TBH i think ill add a silencer in the middle to reduce the sound by a few Db just for comfort. It purrs like a kitten with booms coming down the revs and a tiny bit of rasp at full throttle. And i now CANT hear my induction noise at all lol.Engine feels smoother and throttle response seems better and kangarooing seems less

Don't mean to sound funny or anything, but i notice on alot of posts you talk about how you want a new car.

Would it not be a better idea to stop spending money on your current car and saving some money up for your new car.
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 15th Aug 2006 5:07pm
increasing the value of the car rob mate, couldnt sell it as is (for decent money anyway, both bumpers need a respray, and it looks odd without skirts)thats all,ok the bib and the graphics are a bit too far but chances are ill be keeping this car when i get my next one, turn the scort into a "Track toy" (strip it and 2.0 it)

Its an exhaust manifold that started life an an ST170 item but was cut up and welded so it fits onto a mondeo's zetec-E. Its a 4-2-1 and SHOULD have enough clearance under my sump (standard mondeo downpipes turn under the sump a few inches higher than escort downpipes do,and the mondeo sump is a few inches shorter than the escort item) Worst case scenario i just buy and fit mondeo sump and pickup pipe

Problems with car this week: Blew a coolant hose off the join to the heater matrix(engine side) Quickly found it (stopped straight away after a massive cloud of steam errupted out of the engine bay) and rectified it (i hadnt fitted a jubilee clip when i changed the engine, silly me) Filled with new coolant, bled, and also engine topped up with special military oil (as a tempory measure)

When i service my car next (this and the BMW,if thats ok) i'll be using this military oil to flush the engine out (its a 10W30 with special detergents in....and its FREEE)
Posted By: Dazza Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 31st Oct 2006 1:12pm
Its also had the primarys bent into a different position, the standard manifold is an awkward shape - Looking good though, get it on the rollers laugh
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 1st Nov 2006 1:07pm
BAD NEWS. The ebay manifold hasnt been won (even tho it sed it was) the guy has said he set a reserve of 200 quid but it obv never worked. Ebay have removed it,reversed the transaction and all that gubbins. IF i want it i'll have to pay 200 quid. Which i wont,i only bid on it cos no-one else was and it appeared to have no reserve.Dazza. Fancy a manifold for 200 notes? search ebay

Mondeo V6 calipers with some decent pads thrown in free, get meself to a motor factor tomorrow to get the 278mm cosworth fit discs to bang on at the weekend
Posted By: Sanchez Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 8th Feb 2007 5:30pm
those look like they have been sat at the bottom of the ocean for a thousand years, you shore they still work, after all they only stop your car
Posted By: turbo_stu Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 8th Feb 2007 5:53pm
i'd get the calipers shot blasted and re-built, with new seal and pistons before i used them, mind you i would go for some big alloy calipers instead............but we are not all made of money
Posted By: DavidB Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 8th Feb 2007 6:18pm
Always steer clear of calipers that are rusty and have been slit half way up the hose. Unless they're straight off the car, the piston will be knackered and rip through new seals everytime you change them!

I've been after a set of those alloys as well. wink
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 9th Feb 2007 1:48am
they are fresh off a car mate, and the calipers on my car atm are rustier than those. Bit of sandpaper and they'll look loads better, may even give em a lick of red caliper paint,or silver, i think red calipers are only suited to white hondas
Posted By: Sanchez Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 9th Feb 2007 10:41am
lol, stick a honda badge on your car scoop, that will do the job then.
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 9th Feb 2007 11:18am
TBH I think those calipers look pretty decent. Being cast and inside the wheel they do rust from all the road crap. All the rubber caps are still on the bleed nipples and sliders so they should be in good nick, and cutting the hoses is the fastest way to get them off (the ends are still wet too which shows they are fresh off a car).

Pads look new, so they must be OK of someone has just put a set on the car before taking the calipers off.

Every set of cast calipers Ive ever seen have looked like that and still worked fine smile

A good wire brushing and lick of hammerite and they be good as new.

Pics below
Cossie discs in comparison to a dinner plate (actual size 278mm,current discs 240mm)
[Linked Image]
Top pipe, custom adaptor to make braided hose fit mondie caliper,Bottom pipe, end of mondeo flexi hose,
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
2 custom braided hoses (supposed to be direct fit onto caliper, but arent) and the 2 adaptors whipped up to make em fit
[Linked Image]
Adaptors fitted, and braideds fitted to the back, this better be able to fit without fouling the struts etc,if not i'll have to get a new set of custom braided hoses with the right end on.
[Linked Image]

Cost of all this

Mondeo V6 Calipers, carriers and good cond pads - £23 quid inc delivery
Cossie 278mm discs - £27 each with a discount from motor factor
Braided hose - £27 the pair
2 adaptors made of brake pipe - £4
some dot 4 fluid - £5

All nuts and bolts etc will be free from work

113 quid for MUCH better brakes, not bad at all,to renew my little 240mm discs and pads woulda cost 50 quid

nice one scoopy dog, well i hope it all works out. i always say you can t beat a bargan, and it looks like you got one here !
Posted By: MrPhil Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 13th Feb 2007 11:18am
why not black? i think painting calipers red or silver looks chav imho.

look at the strut now with the wheels off and you could make judgment of whether the pipes will clear if not a small adjustment qon't bother the joint as long as you haven't tightened them fully now.

are the escort calipers you have on now the split pin or the 7mm allen key type?
Posted By: scoop Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 13th Feb 2007 6:03pm
i got the push pin ones ATM.

And if the copper hoses do foul i'll bend em a little with a brake pipe bender and see if i can fit em a few degrees to make em fit,if they need extremem bending (which cant be done) then i'll just have the end of me braided lines replaced.Cant wait to fit em
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 14th Feb 2007 3:17pm
IIRC brake thread are universal... (Scooby may be able to confirm)

You can get a converion hose for the S13 to take the 4pots and they are female on the car side, and male on the caliper side - if the thread is the same they woulds suit you down to the ground.
Ok they may up your brake upgrade cost a bit, but good brakes is one thing, reliable brakes is everything..... happy

possibley not mate,as the legnth of the hose is very important too,and the hoses on the escort are comparitively long compared with all the other hoses in the book we looked thru. As said,if they dont fit i'll just take these hoses back and have one end taken off and a male end put on (if thats possible, may need hoses made from scratch again)

time will tell, only 3 days now
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 15th Feb 2007 10:58am
Its not the "will it fit right" thats worrying me matey, its the "will it last" The copper lines on the end of a flexi will move and flex (and weaken) as the car goes over bumps etc, thats why the brake lines after the fixed point on the car turn to flexi hoses.

To be honest, brake mods arent something id like to test to the point of failure before deciding a better solution is needed no

I would agree with chewy, not to be guessed at.

Great bargin smile
Posted By: Johnny Alan Re: Scoop : Ford Escort SI - 15th Feb 2007 7:13pm
I agree to the only way I would do what you say is to fix a bracket between the cooper and braided hose.

Dob jun.bedding in nicely and can deffo feel the improvement, cant waqit til i can hammer them. After all that hassle there was no need for the braided lines,i've used em,and i cut the standard hoses up to get a bracket off them to fit to the braideds, but the standard flexi bajo would fit with a washer added and the little leg bit grinded back a bit, bit peeved about that, spent 35 quid unnecesarily. oh well
