Over night - I wish

Tubby timer is coming from the land of the rising sun, and the induction kit, from the US of A - both should be about a week.

the car looks great mate laugh

Stuy, Great car, you're getting me into the 200SX mood again! The S14A looks much better even though it has only slight differences.
How easy is it to fit a turbo timer? Was thinking of one myself. Do they cost much?
Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 8th Mar 2005 9:44pm
The Tubby timer was £85 delivered - Gadget has a thread about them somewhere smile

As for fitting, its fairly straight forward, normally you can get a harness which plugs in to the ignition loom, but my car as its a UK model doesnt have one available (im pretty sure there wont be one for your car also). Theres a few wire you just need to tap in to and hardwire the timer in smile

I love skylines but I have to say the S14A you've bought compared to your old skyline, I prefer the S14A. Looks sleeker and more modern. I think you'll do wonders with this one Stuy!

Been busy again this weekend wink

Have now fitted:

Denso Iridium spark plugs (Cooler)
Walbro (Uprated Skyline) fuel pump
Blitz Turbo Timer
Greddy Profec B Boost controller.

Took her up to Llandudno on Sat night for the cruise, and shes running sweet at the moment, just need to get the filter here, and get that on .....

Next....?

Front mounted intercooler?
Coilover suspension?
18's?

Your car great mate. Was trying to keep up with on the way back from Llandudno, that car does shift, sound and looks sweet.

The front mounted IC will fit behind the std front bumper, though there will be chopping needed and Ill have to lose the front fogs, but it will be easy to spot behind the intake on the bumper smile

Yesterday was spend fitting the induction kit which arrived along with the adapter, and Ive also fitted a pair of 6 x 9s in the rear shelf and an amp on the back of the seat smile
Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 22nd Mar 2005 4:08pm
Just ordered this little set of hoses:

[Linked Image]

They are braided, flexi turbo hoses for the turbos water feed, return, and oil feed. The std items have a habit of cracking as they are hard metal pipes, these stop the risk of that. It also means you less likely to spring a water / oil leak round the turbo area smile

Well, gonna wait for that Intercooler, its an absolute monster, and should be good for cooling a lot of charged air wink

Then Ill be after some coilovers to lower and stiffen it up, and then some wheels laugh

I guess there will be other little bits and bobs that Ill get in the meantime as well, like this brand spanking new Cam cover:

[Linked Image]

which is in the post smile

Bodywork will stay pretty much std, with a different rear spoiler at some point.

Im still undecided of which turbo to go for confused Theres a good few out there to have a look at, and it may even have to be a top mount jobbie to fit something big enough in there for the power I have in mind wink
Posted By: AX_125 Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 29th Mar 2005 9:50am
Who has the MG obsession lol.

Nice car mate, wouldn't mind one of these myself in the near future.

What are they like reliability wise?
Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 29th Mar 2005 9:55am
The White MG is my sisters and her boyfriends, and the dark one is his brothers - the black one is getting the white ones engine fitted and the white one is getting something a little more "special" fitted. Total nightmare! They are mid engined and friday was spent dropping both engines, on the rear subframes from both cars laugh

The 200's are as reliable as the next car, but then that can be compramised by their state of tune. TBH its the RWD and the rain that get most frown
Posted By: dikky5 Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 29th Mar 2005 1:30pm
whats goin in the mgs. the fs r pretty cool 2 drive but not quite as tfs. is ur sis gettin a broken skyline engine put in it cos uve still got 1 o them arround!!!!

Lol, he keeping it hush hush about what motor is going in the white one wink

As for the GTR motor, it'd cost more to fix and fit than both the MGFs are worth together tease

Lookin good stu. Whats the car pushin out now then bhp wise? Guess you will have the biggest bhp increase the nextime we do a rolling road.
Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 30th Mar 2005 9:14am
Well, its on Stg 1 mods at the moment, which on average makes approx 250bhp on similar cars with similar mods smile
Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 4th Apr 2005 3:58pm
Ok, Cam cover has arrived, but it dont fit frown

The pic on e-bay cuts the front of the cover off (Plus the description was wrong) and it doesnt have a VVT cam sprocket buldge which mine has. It appears its come from an early S13 180SX which physically wont fit my car.

On another point (good one this time), the fitting kit for that large front mounted cooler is nearly ready wink

Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 5th Apr 2005 10:15am
Whats the "S" Engine confused

The S12 Silvia '84 - '87 had the CA18ET motor, the S13 87-94 had the CA18DET, and the S14s and 15s had the SR20DET (SR20DE on the S15 spec S -Non turbo) But Ive never heard of any being reffered to as the "S" engines matey.

Scoop, the MGFs are nothing to do with me matey lol, and Im trying to get in touch with the guy from e-bay now.

Daz, your time will come mwuhahahaha wink

height adjustability through lengthaning or shortening the overall length of the damper body

they have adjustable spring platforms to allow adjustment of spring preload and set corner weights

theyre 32 way damping adjustable

they come with alloy rose jointed (pillowball) front and rear top mounts

they feature camber adjustable front top mounts.

You also get a chocie of initial spring rates, Ive opted for 8kg/mm front, and 6kg/mm rear smile

Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 14th Apr 2005 1:55pm
Fitted all the suspension yesterday, and its just a case of playing round with it all now smile

At first it was a little sketchy on corners as the struts where far to short and it was lifting a rear wheel eek

Ive now lengthened them and its sorted that, and Ive lowered it a little (gotta be careful so as I can still get on the drive at home), but it takes about 45mins to adjust the ride height of the car, and theres over 200mm of ride height adjustability on the struts laugh

Dampers are set in the middle of there adjustment and are quite stiff for road use as you feel ever stone you run over, cant wait to get it on a trackday though, slam it at the track, stiffen it up a bit more and dial a little camber on .... wink

With the intercooler getting delivered next week, it time I can start putting some "proper" power through her wink

Spotted this:

[Linked Image]

Would need to source a dump pipe for it, and extend the front pipe to meet up as this turbo would need to sit top mount due to its size. The kit also includes an external wastegate which make a noise that could wake the devil laugh

Heres one fitted to an S13 (1.8) to get an idea of the size wink

Stuy, your car is coming along fast! I've never seen so many mods in such a short space of time.
So what's it pushing out now?
Your going to have to start thinking about wider rubber to cope with traction pretty soon.
Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 3rd May 2005 9:42am
Should get an idea of power at the Peco RR day on Saturday, but I guess anything over the 200bhp std will be good smile

Wheels are next on the list matey, its tyre roll thats letting the handling down at the moment and I cant get anything bigger than 310mm brakes under the std 16" wheels frown

Fingers crossed I have a pair of AP 4 pots lined up for it, and a set of bells in my std pattern to match some rotors to. Should be able to make summut in the region of 330mm brakes up smile

Been having a little rethink on the old turbo situation. The turbo posted above - the T70 kit is great for loadsa power, but it wont be on boost till just after 4000rpm frown

Spotted these few little bits wink Would still be to big to mount under the manifold, so would be another top mount jobbie. The turbo will flow enough air for 500bhp+, though it would be on boost 500-750rpm lower - giving more drivability smile

T04E, 50 trim, Stage III (360 degree thrust bearing), 0.63 a/r turbine housing, 3" intake and 2" exhaust:

Posted By: maverick Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 24th May 2005 3:34pm
That still looks like a beast. You are running almost 300bhp now, what will the new turbo give you. What boost are you running now and what boost would you be running the new one at.
Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 24th May 2005 3:59pm
TBH Id probably have to lower the boost from the current 14psi to about 10psi as the std 440cc injectors are pretty much max'd out at the moment frown

Even so, dropping to 10psi on that turbo should still give a few more geegees wink but with new, bigger injectors, some management and boost at 17-18psi - who knows wink

Just picked up a pair of nice AP 4 Pot Calipers for the car.

[Linked Image]

Already got some 8" bells, but need to find the rotors that best suit for the best price.

Best cost effective route will be 330mm x 32mm, but if prices arent too bad, Ill try and get some 355mm dia rotors, and space the caliper apart to get some 38mm thick ones in there too - though it does all depend on the price frown

Also fitted last week was a front and rear, alloy strut brace, and a 320mm steering wheel smile

Ive also fitted the Apexi Super AFC fuel computer, so injector and MAF changing wont be a problem now, so as soon as the brakes are on, I can really concentrate on making it go a bit quicker now the suspension and brakes are sorted wink

Just ordered a new turbo for the car smile

Buying the lot in bits, rather than a kit, so as to match a better turbo for my car. Heres some pics smile

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

(The stainless pipes are 3" wink )

Its a T04e with .50 a/r turbine, and .70 a/r compressor, with a .50 housing.

It should be boosting by just before 3000rpm, making 10psi by 3400-3500, and on full chat by 4000rpm and with the right mods, this turbo will support 500bhp+ smile

Just looking at a top mount manifold to mount it, and external wastgate with a screamer pipe that will run to the floor under the engine - its gonna be quite loud laugh
Posted By: spinking Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 30th Jun 2005 10:34am
Dammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Stu you are going to have one veryfast 200 there.

Just woundering what bhp are you going to stop at and whats the quickest 200 in the country?
Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 30th Jun 2005 10:43am
Ultimate aim is 400-450bhp, but there is plenty of other stuff I need to get there yet frown

I think as soon as the turbo goes on, it'll need a clutch, Then some bigger injectors, differnet managment at some point (The Super AFC will do for a while), Bigger AFM, Inlet cam and ultimatly rebiuld the engine with forged pistons, "H" beam forged rods, and a metal headgasket.

Then it'll be a case of what the std gearbox will take - I belive their limit is circa 450bhp.

Quickest in the UK??? No idea really, I know there are a few pushing 500bhp smile
Posted By: AL Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 30th Jun 2005 10:53am
Very nice Mr Mac cant wait to see the turbo and especially the screamer pipe sweet!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 30th Jun 2005 11:03am
Good stuff Stu smile What made you go for the top mount in the end? cool Aint screamer pipes illegal tease I've never heard one but from what im told they sound evil laugh
Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 30th Jun 2005 11:34am
Had to go top mount as this turbo wont physically fit under the manifold where the std turbo fits.

Just ordered this kit to fit it:

[Linked Image]

Screamer pipe is at the bottom left of the pic and will just drop down to point at the floor under the engine. As far as I know they are not illegal confused It'll make a hell of a noise on boost, but when not on boost the noise will be no different smile
Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 4th Jul 2005 11:18am
More bits ordered, this time from Japan (Though I doubt it'll be over night wink lol )

Bigger injectors, and a bigger AFM - these are gonna be essential to run the bigger turbo laugh

Just got round to fitting these and bedded them in before the Sprint.

AP Calipers, 330mm x 30mm AP Grooved rotors, AP 7" Bells, Mintex 1144 pads, Castrol SRF Fluid, Custom Caliper bracket and Aeroquip hoses - the results are stunning in the way the car stops so well laugh

I also had some red stuff rear pads fitted at the same time, along with some braided rear lines.

Think Im putting the clutch and turbo fitting on a back burner for a couple of months as Ive just bought a new engine managment system laugh

It does pretty much everything I want (Bar launch and traction control) and is very comprehensive, offering maps for:

Airflow output
Acceleration injector and ignition maps
Individual cylinder injector and ignition maps
speed correction maps
Ignition adjustmant map
A/F Target Map (This is a great feature - almost "self learning")

Plus is does much much more. Ideally I also need to get a wide band lambda, and then I should be able to do most of the mapping and tuning myself using a laptop inside the car smile

Gonna take a while to get here from the other side of the world though frown But as soon as it gets here Ill get it fitted with my bigger injectors, and do away with the airflowmeter in favour of a MAP sensor and get it setup and running right post turbo fitment smile

It wasnt cheap, but not that expensive as the rings are past their best, though these are all getting replaced.

The engine is the SR20DET smile

RB26 - Been there, seen them, rebuilt it already, and parts prices are a joke for that engine - as I found when I had the GTR. Im sticking to the trusty SR, which proves far more reliable when tuned.

Had the CA in a few 200's, inc a well tuned one I had in my red one, but Nissan dont do a CA20 lol smile

Its the latest "Ultimate" Version of Greddys E-Manage. The original "Blue" was very limited in the levels of turn you could go to with it, with very basic maps, and limitations on air flow and injector sizings, the new Ultimate has got rid of nearly all the restrictions, and has many more maps to get the set up just right smile

All I need is a wideband lambda, and a nice big road, and Ill be mapping the car myself smile

Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 31st Oct 2005 12:36pm
Im hoping for 400bhp+

Paid for all my internals today, so they should be coming across the pond shortly, Im also looking at twin plate clutches to take the power.

Bad news about the managment though frown A guy I know down south was up this way over the weekend, and he installed the same management, and had problems. Still had the wiring in his car though, and plugged my unit in, and came back with the same problem that we suspect is a software problem frown

Greddy are being about as much use as a chocolate fire gaurd tho, so it looks like Ill be sending it back for a refund, and rethink which way I want to go.

Power FC seems to be one of the preffered choices, but you still need to run an AFM - I really want to ditch that for a MAP sensor which unrestricts airflow to the engine. Just need to look in to the systems that will allow me to do what I want, MoTec being one, but very very pricey frown
Posted By: Sanchez Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 31st Oct 2005 1:36pm
what was the problem matey
Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 31st Oct 2005 2:22pm
It was giving a misfire at 1500-2000rpm on low load. You could get rid of it by retarding the timing, but your losing the advantage of being able to map in such detail then frown

It was also causing high spikes in one of the injector dutys, which is very dangerous.

Maybe it was released a little too soon, or it doesnt suit cars with coil packs confused
Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 1st Nov 2005 11:09am
Right,

New Clutch ordered smile

Its an Ogura Racing Clutch or ORC, one of D1's official sponsors. Its a Push Type Damper Twin-Plate clutch, and is good for over 600bhp and equal amounts of torque. Apparently the springs in this kit make engagment a little smoother for driving in traffic, but after trying the OS Giken twin plate in the Skyline, I doubt this will be anything but very on or off lol - but hey what can you do wink

It also includes a lightweight aluminium flywheel smile

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]
Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 1st Nov 2005 11:31am
The included flywheel is also the lightest available at 4.6kgs (This is the same weight as one of the JUN flywheels) - std flywheel is 9.6kgs laugh
Posted By: Scooby Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 1st Nov 2005 12:06pm
Wont that effect the idle ? I mean will it idle lumpy or is there still enough weight in the remainder of the engine for the required momentum between strokes ?
Posted By: StuyMac Re: StuyMac - Nissan 200SX S14a - 1st Nov 2005 12:31pm
4.6kgs is only the weight of the flywheel, on top of that you have the pressure plates and cover.

Had a Lightweight Flywheel on the S13, full lightweight flywheel and paddle clutch kit on the S14, Very similar OS Giken Twin kit on the Skyline, and never experienced any (lumpy) idle problems confused

The new arms are adjustable where as the old standard arms were fixed therefore you can adjust the camber angles now.

When you lower a car it throws out the camber settings therefore its best to replace the arms with adjustable arms and then you can re-set the camber to the new lower suspension settings.

Okay, i can see whats coming next.... Whats Camber ??

Canber is the angle your wheel sits vertically. If you look at most rear wheel drive cars from the rear then both rear wheels tend to lean in at the top of the wheel slightly. This is so the tyre sits correctly on the road.

  • Neautral Camber :

  • Negative Camber :
