Hello everyone, i want to show you my Honda Civic 99' Lsi... i bought this car in march this year.. and done engine modifications are: AEM cold air intake (180£) and DC Sports ceramic coated 4-2-1 header(280£) with metal exhaust manifold gasket... interior modifications are: DC Sports Gearknob (RARE), Mutant MT-2200BT CD MP3 Player and Sparco pedal pads which will be fitted probably next month... this car from his beginnings to the end will be N/A car... I'm more focused on engine modifications so body will be "little" changed.

Wouldnt bother with Greenstuff pads though - junk!
Posted By: Beny90 Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 7th Sep 2009 1:56pm
Yes it is D16Y7... and greenstuff pads are already bought... i just want to change stock ones, cos guy who sold me this civic put the cheapest ones and they screaming as hell

I bought turbo disks and green stuff pads for my Fabia VRS and they were W@nk!!

Posted By: MattLFC Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 7th Sep 2009 9:56pm
Nice car fella, I quite like these version's of the Civics, dunno about the green stuff but if Chewy and Wheels say they are crap, they most probably are lol.

Look forward to seeing how it progresses mate smile

-new paint coat on front&rear bumper and spoiler
-mirrors,side skirts painted in body colour
-16"or 17" alloys

Cant beat ferodo ds series...probably ds2000s for that car.
I used to run 2500's for the audi and they were amazing; but the civic is alot light and has less power..hence why the 200's would probably be better as they heat up quicker
Posted By: Beny90 Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 26th Sep 2009 2:10pm
thanks for your proposal cool
Posted By: Dave100e Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 28th Sep 2009 4:56pm
I had Ds2500's on the pug and they where immense in such a light car. Although they could be squeeky when warm, and they still worked from cold.

Ive got Redstuff now on the 14 and theyre pretty good too. Both cars have EBC discs i think.

Is the D16 an 8v but with Vtec? Is it the one they like to turbo or is that the D15? Im not too clued up on Hondas really, all i know is that they spin the wrong way.
Posted By: Beny90 Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 28th Sep 2009 6:41pm
This is 1.6 16v non vtec, and green stuff pads are already bought, i just must earn some money and buy brembo or EBC discs... if green stuff will be shitty like beaker wrote i will change them...
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 28th Sep 2009 6:44pm
If you want decent stoppers - a direct upgrade is Intrgra Calipers with MG ZR rotors - 282mm diameter and 25mm thick, vented smile
Posted By: Beny90 Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 28th Sep 2009 6:50pm
i'll stay on brand ones, i want save more cash to buy brembo's which probably will life longer than non-branded brakes...

He's just told you of a perfect upgrade to your std brakes, bit like ford people going to ST170 discs for a 300mm brake upgrade.

Cheap and cheerful upgrade with OE fitment IMO smile
Posted By: Beny90 Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 28th Sep 2009 7:06pm
i know what you mean i just want to change the stock ones, i dont use my car in race track... so i think brembo or ebc 262mm will be good but thanks anyway for your propositions guys. smile

BTW: how much it takes to make conversion from drum to discs brakes?
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 28th Sep 2009 7:08pm
TBH Its all about the pads - I ran 282 pattern rotors with DS3000s on my old EG race car without any problems.

I was using the Legend calipers though with 2 pistons, though the pad is the same as the Integra / Prelude ones - both are a direct swap for use with the MG Rotors, the Teg and prelude calipers are fine for fast road use and a lot easier and cheaper to find wink
Posted By: Beny90 Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 28th Sep 2009 7:21pm
so how big discs can i fit if i have 15" alloys?
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 28th Sep 2009 7:26pm
With motorsport Calipers and wheels you can get 300mm rotors under there...

I had the 5 spoke "blade" wheels on when I started racing the car and the 282 conversion just fitted under them smile

Ill be at the next meet if you wanted to have a chat about anything Honda matey smile

nice one mate smile how many hp? and did you still have this car?
Posted By: Sanchez Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 4th Oct 2009 8:55pm
No i broke it as it was worth more in parts than as a car, I think it got about 210bhp on the CW rolling road day. I totally think you should keep your car for a long time, do lots of little thinks to it bar performance, then drob the b16a engine in to it, really easy to do and with 160bhp from the 1.6 its a great investment.
Posted By: Beny90 Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 4th Oct 2009 9:10pm
i like to stay with this engine coz everyone swapping B16 or K20 into their civics... i just want to be different. I know its difficult to make lots of hp in D16 without turbocharger but i want to show what N/A D16 can do... people sayin "modifying D16 is wasting of money" but i want to do it. I thinking about sports clutch, flywheel, camshaft and new ECU of course... but we've see what ideas gonna come into my head grin thanks anyway
Posted By: MrPhil Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 4th Oct 2009 9:46pm
Their is a user on a site i use who does alot over turbocharger work on these engines, all home made.

I can see what you say about N/A power but with this type of engine it is wastless money. You can get alot more going the turbo route.

Even by ringing it's neck you won't get as good as either the Vti engine (sorry don't know the XXX name of it) or the K20.

All the best with the HP route, a K20 Turbo charged with std looks would be brill.
Posted By: Beny90 Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 4th Oct 2009 10:02pm
like i said before i dont wanna swap the engine and i dont think turbo in front wheel drive is good idea, i dont want to put into this car 10k because i've got in my plan to buy a different car in next 3 years and i think if i get from this engine around 160hp, this makes me happy... if you put all these parts together like exhaust, cai, clutch, flywheel, camshaft, cam gear, ECU... i probably get that many horses, im only 19 thats way i didnt bought VTi version of this civic

Cool, look spot on

Was it as easy as I said it was? Did you have to use the G-Clamp??

Take it easy until they're bedded in properly
Posted By: Beny90 Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 10th Oct 2009 5:53pm
it was hard not because i was doing this first time, because the screws was really rusty and it was very hard to twist them off i smashed couple of tools doing this grin after i fit brakes i go for test drive and i've heard some weird noises going from right wheel and it was f***ing gravel in rear tyre but to make sure everything is fine i checked the screws on caliper and I broke one mad the funny thing is it was far from my house but i was very lucky coz i saw "sonyj" in his impreza so He pick me up to the scrap-yard to get some screws... and thats the story of simple brake change, maybe i am just unlucky? laugh HAPPY END? and g-clamp done the job perfectly
Posted By: BMW Joe Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 10th Oct 2009 6:03pm
Ahh cool

Lucky eh!

Did you use any copper grease when you put bolts back in? It'll stop them sticking when you take things off next time wink
Posted By: Beny90 Re: Beny90: Honda Civic coupe 1.6 lsi 99' - 10th Oct 2009 6:11pm
no i just bought some kind of anti-rust spray to take them off only... when i was putting them back i spray on them using WD-40
