I joined a vouchers thing the other day , and one of the offers is for a Chef and Brewer restaurant. Does this para mean you get to use the downloaded voucher against just your own main meal, providing youre eating with someone else paying full whack, or does it mean 50% off the 'party ' bill (ie both your meals)? Im thinking the latter, but on second reading it seemed a little ambiguous.
1. This voucher entitles the holder to 50% off Main Meals from the main restaurant menu (Snacks, daytime value menu and Buffet Place and Breakfasts are excluded. Drinks purchased will be charged at full price). Minimum purchase of two main meals from the main restaurant menu is required.
2. Only one voucher per party is redeemable

I read that as 50% of all main meals for the whole party as long as there are at least 2 in the party.
It does say off main meals (plural).

Thanks Salmon. I was fairly sure it was that, although when I read the 'meals' the second time , it could also apply to the fact that even one person could be choosing from a few main meals.
I never used to have this problem !!! I blame banks and insurance co's -with all their different snidey ways of tripping you up and making you fall foul of their rules --you have to read everything three times to make sure you query anything vaguely ambiguous , and now Ive started to see potential pitfalls right across the board, where there arent any !!!

Are there any local Chef and Brewer restaurants? Maybe you could give them a call? Or check out their website. I agree with you Venice it is a little ambiguous.

Quote Frank
"Sometimes it suits advertisers to be ambiguous because then you might have ordered and started eating before you discover the true meaning of the offer.

On most occasions though, I would guess it is a lack of understanding of the English language on the part of the person writing the offer.

If you had a string here about signs and offers written in lousy grammar, it could go on forever."

I think you have a point there Frank. I do think lots of offers of all sorts, are deliberately worded to mislead. Ive noticed even Sainsbury are guilty of this from time to time. In smaller outlets and other situations less corporate , I think you're right that sometimes it's more a lack of appreciation of the subtleties of the English language - and that is not a criticism of the individual - its just the way things are on occasion. Grammar/spelling and sentence construction etc are not intensively taught, or even valued much these days and it doesn't really matter in most instances, but it is bound to throw up ambiguities here and there.
As for a thread of poor grammar in offers and on signs, yep, I agree, it could be long , but Id only be interested in a dedicated thread which highlighted poor grammar or wording, that gave me a laugh .

Glad it wasn't just me then ! There are two Zubee, the nearest being Tudor Rose by the Welsh Rd and if we decide to give it a go, I'll just check first.
