Tower Street was an L-shaped street that ran between the top end of Mill Lane, Liscard, and the main shopping area on Liscard Road. The properties were demolished to make way for the Cherry Tree Centre and its associated car park.
Excellent photo's. The reason I asked is that I have a family photograph that was taken in the town hall when it was a military hospital in the first world war. My grandfather was a medical orderly there.
On the back is the photographers details and he was based in Tower street. Name of J Wertherby. Photographic artist. 1 Tower Street. Wonder what happened to all his negatives?
My little website tells you all about...Liscard of the past!
But has it got pics of Tower Street though?
I actually do have them as they are from a picture set taken from the early to mid 1960s that also includes pictures of Rossett Place, St. Albans Terrace and Wallasey Road. One day I will get round to updating the new info I have on Liscard and add the rest.
Strange how this version of the photo is cropped identically to the one I posted here. For comparison here's the full, uncropped, version from the original 2ΒΌ inch square negative, which, by the way, was taken on 28/5/1961.
