hi all
my samsung galaxy s2 has developed a fault. when its turned off it either restarts or comes up battery charging and a overheat symbol flashing and can only restart it by plugging it in. ive tried a new battery and that hasnt worked, cleaned usb port and still problem exists
Has anyone got any ideas what to do?

This has happened several times to mine. Be interesting to find out what causes it .

Have you tried a factory reset ? Once or twice min went red hot. I had to turn it off and that sorted it. But that was in the Icecream sandwich days. I run jelly bean on it now and its given me no issues. I dont use it that much now.
Factory reset will at least rule out a software issue. Or upgrade the operating system.
If that does not help then its hardware and you will be lucky to resolve that as there all throw away devices nower days.
