Advice from our computer experts please:-

Registry Mechanic, c/cleaner, glary utilities do they do any good? do you use them?

C/cleaner removes my passwords which I find a bit of a pain!

Each time I use registry Mechanic it finds and repairs numerous "problems" but I don't notice any difference

Perhaps it's because I run it once/week?? yes/no??

Ccleaner is good and you keep your passwords by going into options then cookies then choosing which cookies you need to keep so you don't lose passwords.

A cleaner programme recommended to me years ago was "Evidence Eliminator", it gives the temp files, the registry, and all the other gash a good boodgie out by zeroising them. I think it's for dodgy people as well, hence the title, but I got it and it seems to work a treat and I've never had any probs with it. I use it when my computer slows right down. I don't do dodgy stuff by the way. It has a life time license once you get it so you get updates as well.

Depending upon how much software your installing / un-installing should you consider those.

CCleaner is good for lack of space.

But on a modern computer that' your not installing and uninstalling stuff all the time, you dont need any of them.
And really if your experiencing problems. CCleaner is good at what it does, but you really don't have to have it nor run it everyweek.

These little cleaners came about in the days where pc programs and uninstallers were terrible at cleaning themselves up things have moved on since then. So unless your experiencing some kind of a problem i see no need.

I'm using win 7 and never installed any of them.
Never had the need.

Only advice, up to you which path you take.

Mark

I'm not really sure why anyone would use these programs.

You want to hide your internet history right? This is the only reason anyone uses cleaner programs these days, to hide their pr0n history - everyone knows this tease

Why not just use a browser that has clean history options, like Firefox? Best thing about it? It's free.

If none of these things work then why aren't they done by the authorities for mis-selling? Why should computer firms get away with things that the manufacturing people can't get away with? A false claim is a false claim.
With MSDOS we used to be able to bring up the Reg and everything else and spend a bit of time cleaning stuff ourselves, now everything is taken out of our hands we desperately search for something to get rid of all the gash that builds up. Technology has left me behind because it moved too fast and I didn't have time to keep up because I was working, now I have the time and haven't a clue what to do to sort stuff. I'm not doing any more computer courses, I've got enough certificates to wallpaper a bog wall.

They are effectively a lazy man's approach, automation of a process that can be done manually. (for the most part).

Low Disk Space ? Windows also has its own Disk clean up wizard.
But you would only find that wizard when your running out of space.

Clean out temp files, history files and cookies and such can all be done manually.

The registry stuff, well its just a clean up, to prevent it from becoming blotted, and cleaning out left behinds from old programs.
but as windows has advanced and programs have advanced ive found no real reason to visit the registry unless i'm pulling out a virus.

If i remember isn't C Cleaner free ?

if it aint broke dont fix it lol

I use CCLEANER as I have a smallish SSD drive - and it keeps free space at an optimum

Are you sure? Do you know how much space it actually saves?

Have you tried using the clean option inside you5r browser instead of it and comparing the two? Cause I'd bet money the only space you're saving is temp internet files, and you don't need cccleaner to do that.
