British director Sir Ridley Scott has claimed technology which allows people to watch films on mobile phones and computer screens is killing cinema.
"We try to do films which are in support of cinema, in a large room with good sound and a big picture. But we're fighting technology."
"While it has been wonderful in many aspects, it also has some big negative downsides," Sir Ridley told reporters.
The director was among a host of stars attending the Venice Film Festival.
The film-maker, whose credits include Gladiator, Thelma and Louise, and Alien, was at the annual Italian event to introduce a digitally remastered version of 1982 cult classic Blade Runner. Maybe these mulit-millionaire directors should consider making inventive and refreshing movies, making quality instead of cheese, and forcing cinema's to ripping consumers off in everything instead of blaming the downfall of film on mobiles and PC's... They wont. And the INDUSTRY (ie. the production companies etc) wont allow cheap low cost cinema operators in the market - easyCinema tried to get in 2 years ago, they offered the production companies DOUBLE per film then any other cinema, yet the production companies wernt interested, because it meant that consumers would be able to take their food in and get cheap tickets, basically the production companies dont want to make things affordable for the consumer. I LOVE the way the competition commission are doing large scale investigations into Sky buying 17.1% of ITV and buying Amstrad more recently, yet they dont give a shit about things that actually affect consumers!!
