Alvara Arbeloa's Real Madrid transfer deal done - Liverpool FC latest

ALVARO ARBELOA will complete his move to Real Madrid today and Andrea Dossena is on the verge of a return to Italy.

The Spanish right-back will make the switch to the Bernabeu after Liverpool agreed a fee of around £3.5million.

Arbeloa, who began his career at Real, flew to Spain following the Reds' Far East tour to undergo a medical and will sign a four-year contract.

The 26-year-old said today: “My signing for Real Madrid is closed.”

The size of the fee represents excellent business for Liverpool as Arbeloa only had one year remaining on his current contract.

He scored twice in 96 appearances for the Reds after arriving from Deportivo La Coruna for £2.6m two and a half years ago.

However, the writing was on the wall for the Spanish international after Liverpool shelled out £16m for Glen Johnson earlier this summer.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez is set to further boost his transfer kitty with the sale of left-back Dossena to Napoli for around £4m.

The Italian's agent, Roberto La Florio, said: “It’s now just a matter of days. The two clubs are in agreement. Liverpool accepted Napoli’s offer but I can’t say any more.
