Wirral golf course hosts record-breaking event today
Four golfers fly in to Wirral this afternoon hoping to set a world record by playing 108 holes in one day at all six of the UK's Open Championship courses.
The fantastic four are hoping to raise more than £100,000 for charity - and the Royal Liverpool golf course in Hoylake, which is renowned for its successful hosting of the Open in 2006, will be their fourth venue of the day.
Mike Balfour, Alistair Hunter, Justin Jeffrey and Paul White are taking on the mammoth challenge, which will see them walk at least 350 miles to raise funds for the Willow Foundation charity.
The charity was founded by former Arsenal goalkeeper and TV presenter Bob Wilson with his wife, Megs. It funds special days out for seriously ill people.
If the event today is a success, the four will be the first to complete this unique challenge.
They have chosen the longest day of the year, the summer solstice, to take advantage of the lasting light.
They began their journey in Kent at 4.15 this morning and are aiming to sink their last putt at Lytham St Annes before it becomes dark at 10pm.
They tee-off at Prince's in Kent then go on to play: Royal St George's in Sandwich, Royal Cinque Ports in Deal; Royal Liverpool in Hoylake; Royal Birkdale in Southport and finally Royal Lytham St Annes.
The team have a twin-engine helicopter to fly them across the country to their golfing destinations. However, the players are not allowed to use caddies or buggies throughout the day.
