The government is to raise the legal minimum age at which tobacco can be bought in England and Wales from 16 to 18 years from October.

The move, announced by Public Health Minister Caroline Flint, will follow the introduction of a ban on smoking in public and work places in July.


Excellent move by the government in my personal opinion, its about time they increased it to become level with drinking laws. Hopefully shops that are selling fags to 13 yr olds and the like will now have absolutely no excuse in saying "they looked about 16"...
