Thanks for the reminder, Fish.

I hate Christmas, it's all death and destruction. Trees, turkeys, ducks, pigs, cows, and castrated parsnips , all for our greedy bellies. All we ever do is eat other living creatures.

Long live the Nut roast!

Thing is these turkeys chickens pigs cows are only given life that we might use them. If we didn't eat them they wouldn't exist (in so many numbers at least). Its a matter of perspective and belief...just makes it harder when you call ducks Jemima, cows Ermintrude and piglets Bland. Oh and parsnips Willy..

Dear me, very tempting Fish... but I shall refrain from asking you; what about cats and dogs ? Whooops , sorry already done it ?

Cats and dogs--uhm. Never knowingly tried them but have heard they occasionally turn up in Chinese/Japanese/swiss cuisine. Its funny how the idea of eating said domesticated pets seems revolting. Apparently its a psychological, emotional barrier for us in the west-and I don't agree with us trying to ban it in other countries.

I recall as a child being given a lesson in school about farming and the different animals there. It was all presented as 'Sheep give us wool' and 'Cows give us milk' 'Pigs give us bacon' etc.

I put my hand up and said "Surely, they don't give it, we just take it!"

I'd somehow caught the mood of the class and there was wide agreement that this was not right. I can see the face of the teacher now. She was preparing us for a farm visit! We were told that these views would not be expressed at the farm, but the farmer - a decent enough chap who'd put on a tea for the class - used the same euphemisms and our teacher went quite red under our disapproving gaze.

Strange, what memories shudder back from the 'bank' as we get older. More and more keep slapping me in the face.

Fish, if you are interested in the odd couple of dogs have a look at the Yulin Festival.. it's no walk around the park.

Hi granny. Have seen the yulin festival stuff before and those who try and rescue one or two dogs. Bothers us in west but they seem to enjoy eating it. Maybe they could improve animal welfare before and during slaughter but thats different arguement .dont think i could stomach eating it
Might be nice to return to a pre fall era where we all eat veggies in the nude.then again their might be a few sights to put us off our leek and potato soup.

Our day was pretty much of the usual standard. All very harmonious until we sat down for dinner.. and then ! Boom !! Part of the traditional Christmas in our house. Timing was excellent. Spot on. tired

Hope everyone else had a lovely time .

Well-- total disaster...forgot the Yorkshire puds!. I actually had the prawn cocktail for starters rather than the leek and potato or broccoli and stilton that my other half had made.
Picked a friend up from Llangollen and took them home so it was 3 hours driving on xmas day. Stayed over and drove back on boxing day--very nice and bright over the Horseshoe pass.
