we all need to get a snuggle cape/blanket, or use duvet to keep warm whilst watching tv, we need heat but the rate it is rising more people just cannot use the heating its out of all proportion, bring back open fires you could keep warm by searching for wood etc to burn, very worrying these soaring prices.

British Gas owned by Centrica. Too big for its own good and pity help us, if the following should raise it's ugly head ever again, with an unchanged policy.
In January 2006, it was rumoured that the Russian state-owned utility company Gazprom was seeking a takeover of Centrica. This created controversy in the media, while the Department for Trade and Industry stated any deal would be subject to "intense scrutiny". Tony Blair announced in April that he would not block any potential deal

If British Gas was still nationalised, we wouldn't have to worry about this. At the moment, four out the big six energy companies are non-British owned. Not good for our future national security.
I just wonder if all the taxes paid by these companies end up in British coffers or in the parent co country?
Probably in the parent co. country. As you see, EDF is French State owned. It's all mind boggling! No wonder nothing gets cheaper, too many companies with too many involvements and they all have to make huge profits to keep going.
EDF Energy Customers (trading as EDF Energy) is wholly owned by the French state-owned EDF SA[3] (Électricité de France) and was formed in 2002 following the acquisition and mergers of SEEBOARD Plc (formerly the South Eastern Electricity Board), London Electricity Plc (formerly the London Electricity Board or LEB), SWEB Energy Plc (formerly the South Western Electricity Board) and two coal-fired power stations and a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power station.
Électricité de France S.A. (EDF; Electricity of France) is the second largest electric utility company in the world. Headquartered in Paris, France, with €65.2 billion in revenues in 2010, EDF operates a diverse portfolio of 120,000+ megawatts of generation capacity in Europe, South America, North America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
EDF is the world's largest producer of electricity.[2] In 2003, it produced 22% of the European Union's electricity, primarily from nuclear power:
nuclear: 74.5%; hydro-electric: 16.2%; thermal: 10.2%; wind power and other renewable sources: 0.1%. Its 58 active nuclear reactors (in France) are spread out over 20 sites (nuclear power plants). They comprise 34 reactors of 900 MWe, 20 reactors of 1300 MWe, and 4 reactors of 1450 MWe, all PWRs.
N.B. Nearly all these mergers took place between late 1990's and 2010. It looks as if we were sold down the pan...doesn't it??

Just think of the millions / billions of people who don't have access to gas/electricity and even water around the world.
Although you are all moaning I bet you wouldn't dream of turning your Sky box off when its recording crap like X-Factor though when you're down the pub?

Think about it before moaning.
Actually, I can't afford Sky, don't watch Xfactor and seldom go to the pub. So before you have a little rant at me, make sure you know what you are talking about.I am quite aware of all the people around the world who do not have all the commodities that we have in this country, but we are not supporting them in this instance. We will be trying to keep warm over the winter and cook a hot meal. If that's ok with you? How much did you put into a charity box this week?
