Merseyside Police officer investigated over alleged sex crimes A MERSEYSIDE police officer is being investigated for alleged sex crimes.
Simon Ferns was arrested earlier this month after the accusations came to light.
The 42-year-old was apprehended and quizzed by detectives over the claims.
The officer has been suspended while the investigation proceeds.The force’s Professional Standards Department has been informed of the matter and will mount an internal enquiry.
Mr Ferns is a constable based at Bromborough police station in Wirral and patrols the Clatterbridge East ward.
Today Merseyside Police refused to release details about the arrest or the nature of the charge.
A spokesman declined to outline how many victims were alleged to have been involved or their ages.
The force would only confirm the constable had been detained under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
The ECHO understands a search of PC Ferns house was carried out and items taken away for examination.
One man, who was aware of the allegations, said: “It’s a real shock.
“It’s hard to hear that a police officer is being investigated for any sort of sexual offence.
“It must be stressed, however, that these are only allegations at this stage and nothing is proven.”
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm a 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
“He was questioned by detectives before being released on police bail pending further enquiries.
“The force can confirm the man is a serving Merseyside Police officer from the Wirral area. He has since been suspended.”
