Merseyside Police want “cop cam” woman to come forward after Wirral death crashPOLICE want to contact this woman, filmed on “cop cam”, after a crash that resulted in the death of a mum-of-two.
Debra Bayley, 44, from Prenton, Wirral, was hit by a red Renault Megane in Hoylake Road, close to St James Church, Bidston, at around 10.40pm on Tuesday, February 2.The woman in the picture stopped to speak to police community support officers at the scene but left before her details could be taken.
She was recorded by the small camera unit many officers across Merseyside are now wearing as part of their body armour.
Collision investigators are now appealing for the woman, or anyone who recognises her, to get in touch as her information may be crucial to the investigation.
Sgt Jason Higham, from the roads policing unit, said: “I would appeal for the woman in these photographs, or any who recognises her, to contact me so we can establish what she heard or saw.
“She is not in any trouble and was not involved in the collision in any way, but she may well have witnessed what happened so it is crucial we get to speak to her.
“A female pedestrian has tragically died after being involved in a collision with a car late at night and we need all the information we can get to establish how it happened.”
The victim was taken to Arrowe Park hospital with a suspected fractured skull but died in hospital the following afternoon.
Several members of the public, including the 48-year-old male driver of the Megane, stopped at the scene and have given statements to police, but the woman has not been spoken to.
It is believed she may have been with a man at the time, who is also captured in the background on some of the footage and police want to speak to him as a potential witness.
