Police appeal for help cracking down on nuisance motorbike riders in Wirral

POLICE are appealing for help in cracking down on nuisance motorbike riders in Wirral.

The force is reacting to several reports of riders making excessive noise and riding dangerously in Moreton.

Acting neighbourhood inspector for Moreton Steve Lewtas said: “It’s not acceptable for motorcycle riders to present a danger and cause annoyance to local residents.

“I would ask people to come forward and tell us who these riders are so we can inform them their behaviour is unacceptable.

“It is illegal to ride on a public road or public land without insurance and a licence, and riders must have written permission of the landowner.”

The warning comes as bikes under the 125cc category became the target of an increase in thefts.

At the beginning of July officers noticed a small increase in the number of small motorbikes being stolen ranging from small mopeds up to more powerful bikes.

The majority of the motorbikes stolen were not secure.

Police are urging all owners to prevent themselves becoming victims of theft by securing bikes using an anti-theft device or locking the vehicle inside a shed or garage.

The increase in thefts were recorded in the Birkenhead and Tranmere areas.
