YOUNG people in Cheshire and Wirral are being offered a chance to try something different at half term with a range of free courses at West Cheshire College.
Three courses, each lasting two days, are being offered free to the area’s 16 to 18-year-olds and include Volunteering for the Olympics, Emergency and Basic Fire Awareness and Understanding Equality and Diversity.
Assistant Principal Sally Cracknell said: "These are interesting and worthwhile short courses which will provide skills for the future and prepare for the excitement of 2012."
Thousands of volunteers will be needed to ensure a successful and impressive 2012, so the Volunteering for the Olympics course will help potential volunteers understand what types of skills will be needed in London in 2012 for both the Olympics and Paralympics.
Emergency and Basic Fire Awareness has been developed to expand knowledge and understanding of fire and safety procedures at public venues, understand the causes of fire and know how to respond.
The Equality and Diversity course will focus in increasing awareness of the issues including the implications of disability, the meaning of diversity, stereotypical attitudes and diverse groups and practices.
Sally Cracknell said: "The courses run from 9am to 3pm with the aim of giving a thorough grounding of the topics.
"They will be fun and interesting as well as being useful for the future."
