I have a 2007 ford focus 1.6tdci non dpf 90bhp diesel (pug engine I believe). It has 120,000 on the clock. I had a big loss of power for small periods of time at the rev range where all the power is usually available. It exists through a few gears then comes back a few mins later. Fells a bit like a misfire or the turbo is not working I have also started getting my engine warning light staying on, I have plugged one of them diagnostic things in and got the following code http://www.dtcsearch.com/P042f/?from=TorqueAnyone have any idea what the issue might be and more importantly, how much to fix

I'd start by cleaning the exhaust gas recirculation valve out, worst case it needs changing
|

Don't know much about cars but had intermittant temporary loss of power in a SEAT with mileage around 110000 . Internet research suggested air flow meter. Found some small residue of oily substance in air hose in which the air flow meter was situated --wiped it out and hey presto-never had the problem again and didnt have to replace the air flow meter. Could try disconnecting it and driving without it. Think the minimal fumes from the oily substance were triggering the air flow meter

I had a similar issue a while back, the fault turned out to be a faulty coil pack,once it was replaced the engine ran sweet as a nut for another 10k.

Gilly's right,,, that code points to EGR valve. So I would look at that first
