Its been a while since I have seen a spark plug from a car but does this seem an excessive gap it was taken out of a ford focus thanks.

Gap for Ford Focus is usually about 1.3mm, to me the gap does look excessive, the arm looks bent and the electrode looks as if it has burnt, possibly due to the excessive gap.

Thanks Dr I thought it looked a big gap but have not seen a modern car spark plug so just thought i'd check.

thats a platinum spark plug it should look like that, dont regap them as you will damage the electrode (as its platinum & delicate
)

how long have they been in? have you measured the gap?

Gap still should be 1.3
Ford did try change their rec to 1.0mm to handle the idling on the zetec engine, but most stick with the 1.3, if yours are much bigger than that you might want to have a look at some (pre-gapped) new ones.

Dont know they were in when I bought the car. The gap looks to be 3-4 mil.

spark plugs should be changed every 37.500 mls that's Auto data's advise when where they last done ?

I remember when the gap had to be set to 0.025" - Adam was a lad at the time!

maybe worth changine for the sake of it then, be prepared to pay some decent cash for a set due to them being platinums. £20-30 odd quid a set
