Is there a competent mechanic on here who is happy to work on my Renault engine?

Reason being is I’ve just bought a F/R catcam for buttons that has never been fitted and would like to fit it. The cam new is £245 I got it for £40, bargain if you ask me. I’ll buy a new gasket set.

The engine is only the D7F (1.2 8v), so it should be a p.o.p to someone who knows what they’re doing.

If you fancy the job and have back-up off other people that can say you know what you’re doing than let me know. Obviously I’ll pay you in sterling or beer whatever you prefer. We’ll sort that out later though.

Another thing is you are going to have to deal with me looking over your shoulder and asking questions.

Let me know,

Cheers

I have no idea how, thats why I'm asking. I'm after guidance smile

I have an idea, but I dont want to get it wrong. All the TDC stuff gets alittle confusing in the haynes manual.

I'm basically asking for help.

CENTRE

is just what it says on the tin..
Always roll forwards (Clockwise) to find TDC dont come backwards.
So if you miss, go round again..

I would just take a spark plug out,
drop a screwy with a long shank on it in to the hole,
but not much of a angle incase it scratched or jammed.

Rocked the car in gear, until screwey comes to the top.
Mark the screwey if your unsure and watch for the next time
around and you know your there when you see the mark.

The more spark plugs you take out the less compression (Fight)
you wil have turning the crank wink

Just ask the Haynes questions your not sure of smile

Yupp, It is that easy, I used a special tool to make sure my cam was TDC though.

Right, well I have next week off so I'll give it bash. Is it worth buying a torque spanner though to put it all back together? Or will tight do?

definately.

I bought a Silverline one off eBay for less than £15. Well worth the pennies.

Make sure you take your time and follow the manual careful. Nothing worse than rushing a job and fooking something up.

as above, you WILL need one, and prob end up re-torquing the head and rockers (i am actually doing mine right now, just letting it cool down a bit)
