noticed i had a puncture lastnight when i was putting my car away. now it seemed to of gone down quite a lot in a few hours so i dont think its a slow one, but hasnt gone down much more overnight.

tyre in question has loads of tread left so i dont really wana be buying a new one unless i have to. was wondering if the 'tyre repair' kits are worthwhile and safe etc etc

Take it to a gararge that does puncture repairs, they will be able to tell you if it is safe to do a repair and should be able to do it themselves for a few quid.

It depends on where the puncture is. Personally, I have never used a puncture repair kit, and I would not trust using one, as a blowout on the motorway etc could mean the difference between life and death.

I would just leave it to the professionals smile

Spit on the valve ?

If it bubbles then its only the valve that would need replacing smile

Additional note :
Take the cap off first lol...

-------
Or Find a deep puddle and see if you can see
where the bubbles are coming from.

If its the side walls of the tyre its a new
one i'm affraid.
As they can not be repaired.

Tyre Repair Kits.
There are a few out there but never used them.
So i couldnt realy say good idea or bad idea.

A tyre place by me charges £5 for puncture repairs. If it's on the sidewall he can also point you in the direction of a tyre welder who also charges just £5-£10 for side wall repairs!

I'm sure side wall repairs are illegal?

For the reason being that the metal strengtheners
inside the rubber,
could be broken, which would in effect weaken the side walls?

That's my thought's but could be wrong sorry

You can Vulcanise a punctured sidewall, this is a special heat treated 2 stage repair and deemed to be safe, although im not sure i would have one on my car....

If you try a normal puncture repair on a sidewall (Or near a sidewall) the patch will come off as soon as you corner as the sidewall flexes under cornering smack

First things first, check to see where the leak is coming from. Remove the wheel, see if you can see any nails, screws etc in there, failing that cover the valve with spit and see if it bubbles, failing that lie the wheel down, get a cup of water and pour the water around the bead (Where the tyre meets the wheel) and allow the water to run all the way around, check for bubbles, if there isnt any then turn the wheel over and do the same on the other side.

If there is nothing there then get it checked out at a tyre house.

valve is ok

found the problem and its just a 2mm (max) slice on of the raised tread section of the top of the tyre so nowhere near the sidewall.

i put it under water though and air comes out of it fairly quickly. im gona take it somewere and see what they say anyway, dont want anythin that is dangerous though

took it to ATS and puncture could be fixed but there was a lot of powder from my sidewalls in there (id ran it slightly flat and not noticed) so he said its safer to get a new tyre.

thanks for the help anyway guys

Tis a good job you never attempted the repair yourself before consulting a professional.
