Hiya all For the last couple of days my sister has noticed an extemely loud ticking sound coming from the front of the car. My dad said that she needs to get it sorted asap as it really doesnt sound very well. On the way home from work today it was alot louder than usual. So we pulled over and we listened from each side of the bonnet. I then clicked up the bonnet and its coming from the engine its self. Does anyone know what it could be and where we could get it sorted at a decent price? Any Help much appreciated Love Laura x

check the oil and top it right up, even if this is not the problem you really want to keep it lubricated so this fault doesnt overly hurt it while u get it sorted, could be tappets??

No, the only time it stops is when she takes the key out of the ignition.

Evo here we go hun, about the tappets
Tappets - These ride on the camshaft and actuate the valves. On a flathead, they directly open the valves, on an overhead valve engine they push rocker arms via the push rods to perform the same function.

It sound like engine Tappets from your description hun. As already stated make sure the engine oil level is correct or it is possible to cause severe damage. Check out our sponsers page for a list of garages who should offer you a free estimate and assesment. I know where i would take it but maybe i am slightly biast

Note for all you tappet fans: Modern engines have hydraulic tappets/lifters and do not require a 'shim'. Cold starts in the morning usually give a tapping sound, once the oil has flown through the engine a bit, the tappets become lube'd and tap no more.
