On Wednesday 12th June, 2013 the 1st Battalion of the Mercian Regiment will parade through Birkenhead to mark their return from a Tour of Duty in Afghanistan.
It will be their first Homecoming Parade since being granted Freedom of Entry to the Borough in 2009 and also the first time that the new Regimental Colours of the Mercian Regiment will have been paraded locally.
The Homecoming Parade sets off from Birkenhead Park at 11am. It will then progress to the Town Hall, Hamilton Square, via Claughton Road, Exmouth Street, Grange Road (Precinct), St John Street, Claughton Rd, Hemingford Street, Conway Street, Europa Boulevard, Price Street, (then to Hamilton Square), with the entire route expected to take around 30 minutes to complete. The Mayor of Wirral will then take the salute and conduct the medal presentation.
The public are invited to support the march, and also attend the presentation of medals at Hamilton Square at around 11.30am.
