Children in poverty are the next victims of George Osborne’s Budget. He wants to cut child tax credits - the essential support for families who aren’t getting paid enough to live on.

All children deserve to start life on an equal footing. But low wages can put barriers in the way of a happy and healthy childhood. That’s why some of the poorest families get help to pay for essentials, like healthy food and school uniforms.

This support means thousands of children don’t have to experience poverty at the start of their lives.

Budget Protest July 8th:

On July 8th the Tories will announce £12bn of welfare cuts in the emergency budget. On this day people up and down the country will be taking to the streets to stand against the ideological (not economical!) policies that these welfare cuts represent; and Merseyside will be joining them! Liverpool made the national news on June 20th as the nation stood side by side against the governments austerity measures, and we plan to do the same again on July 8th. Stand with us and make sure the Tories hear our dissent loud and clear! https://www.facebook.com/events/701419316652122/

Labour wouldn't have done anything any different if they'd won.

You're right, but clearly some of the contributors here want us to vote for the Socialist Workers Party who, if elected, would make everything all right. grin

If people here only knew how corrupt the Greeks are, and everyone is at it, then they wouldn't be shedding so many tears. Everything, and I mean everything, is done on kickback but they don't mind because they're all at it and it is expected. Therefore it also follows that the ones further up the food chain do better than those at the bottom, same as in every system. Would you lend money to someone who you knew had no intention of paying you back, especially if you're not particularly well off yourself? I thought not.
Kids in poverty? I don't see kids running round with no shoes like they used to. They all seem to have mobile phones, computers, go on holidays to wherever and we have a childhood obesity crisis apparently. Someone's telling porkies and I think I know which side that is.

When I left the RN after 11 years service, 7 as a submariner, I did a capstan setter operators course to obtain employment in civvy street. I couldn't get a job until I joined a union, I couldn't join a union until I had a job, CLOSED SHOP. Guess who I think are keeping people down?
To keep my family I've picked potatoes, picked sprouts, driven buses, conducted buses, packed pork pies for hours on end, worked in bakeries, did a fibre optics installation course which also turn out dud. I've spent years away from my home town to stay in work and done time in the Falklands, Former Jugoslavia, Middle East, Far East and defence work which you could only dream about. What makes you think that you have the right call me ...? I worked to make sure my kids had what they deserved instead of expecting someone else to pick up my bills. So do one as far as I'm concerned, Unions I've shit 'em, and if it wasn't for them we would still have a dock industry round here, another job I was prevented from taking up.

Gordon Brown calculated the tax credit would cost £2 billion, it is now costing £30 billion. Unsustainable. Lets get the companies paying decent wages instead of being propped up by the government. They are still making the same amount of profits, so why not share them to all their staff.

Tax Credits and minimum wage were the worst possible things that Brown introduced. (apart from selling our gold reserves when the price was at it's lowest) F....ing idiot.
