COULD YOU BE A WIRRAL AMBASSADOR? In May, Cunard's 'Three Queens' ships (Queen Victoria, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth) will meet up on the Mersey for the first time, and large numbers of visitors are expected to come to Wirral's water front. We are looking for ambassadors for just the Bank Holiday Monday 25th May 2015. Hours are very flexible and we are looking to staff the event between 9am and 3pm. Ambassadors will provide a welcome smile and provide information for the thousand expected to visit the Wirral that day. The areas we expect visitors will be between Monks Ferry up to New Brighton. You will get a visit Wirral baseball cap, t-shirt, poncho and bag identifying you as an ambassador. A training day in May either the 13th or 14th will need to be attended but it should only be for an hour or so. Food, drink and identifiable clothing (t-shirt and hat) for the day will be provided to all who volunteer. Training will be given for this role but it is voluntary. If you would like to know more or would like to enrol onto the Ambassador scheme please email your details to: [email protected] or ring 606 2071.

According to the link from the link above DBS checks are not be required for all volunteers at events like these. This is an extract from the download: You should make sure all staff, volunteers and organisers know where to take children who have lost their parent or the person looking after them. You may want to add this to your programme or put up notices for members of the public. The lost child should have at least two adults looking after them at all times and at least one of the adults responsible for looking after lost children should have been checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service.

I should imagine there would be far more volunteers without DBS checks than any with, I guess it's still a valid question, indeed its one I would not have thought of without it being raised here. Shows how out of touch I am.

Probably the most part of the job will entail directing people to the nearest loos, first aid post, café, bus stop, ferry times. Maybe a bit of information should they require to know what any of the buildings on Liverpool Waterfront are, or any local information about your immediate area such as car parking. Nothing much more than that. A visible presence makes people feel happier. Interesting day for those who get involved. Good Luck.
