Costs a few bob but worth it in the long run i would say. [/b] These days, if people want to steal your car, theyre gonna do it. Its all well and good having an alarm and immobiliser, but all they theives have gotta do is take your keys. Then youre ****ed. But thats where a tracker comes into its own.

Is it easy to get past a tracker?
Sometimes with the value of cars, is it worth spending money on one?

The only way to get past a tracker is to find it on the car, and remove it - even then, the tracker company will be able to guide the police to the "Trackers" location - its like a little homing beacon Tracker costs varys, but as a rough guide your looking at £400 supplied and installed, then either a set price for cover as long as you own the car (About £300+) or a subscription per yer (About £10-£15) per month. Get a high performance, high risk car, and a lot of insurance companies wont insure you without one

The way I see it, there are 2 types of car theif, the oppertunist and a professional. The oppertunist will break in to your car and steal whats in it, or want to joy ride, along with the obvious alarm / imobiliser, a good deterant is to hide a kill switch to the ignition or fuel pump or remove an HT lead or something - this should render the car undrivable. The professional car theif will be much more determind to get a car, and despite complex alarms / imobilisers, chances are they will get your car either by towing it or putting it on a flatbed truck and not even try to start it there and then. This is where a tracker comes in as the car will probably be taken somewhere to be stripped for parts or exported from the country

Yeah, I tried to get insurance on a £2500 Polo G40 and they wanted it to have a tracker fitted to insure me and a cat 1 alarm.
Who wants to nick a 10 year old polo?
Even then they only quoted me about £600.
My boss had a £40k BMW 4x4 stolen (complete with tracker), unfortunatly she was away for the weekend at the time and didnt report it untill she got back. never got any of that back.
Is it true, if you ship the whole car abroad and "own" it for 6 months it legally becomes yours? Cant remember which country though.
