A brilliant book and so relevant and important for the days it was written.It has nowhere near the same relevance to modern day Britain with all the job protection and welfare state which for all their faults give people a much better way of life than the period prior to trades unions and the(Proper) Labour party.
We saw the play in Liverpool(not this particular one) a couple of years back and as is often the case, much is lost in the transition to the stage.

I find it is still very relevant today. Circumstances may have changed, but there are still the haves and the have nots, and it still seems to be the bootlickers and toadies who get on in the workplace.

Thanks for posting this Dawn. Will try to get along to this, but same night as my union AGM.
The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists is one of the finest books of the 20th century. I've read it a couple of times. You don't have to be a socialist to agree with much of what it says and how it's as relevant today as it was in the 1910s. Saw the stage play too at the Everyman a few years ago.
Robert Tressell is buried somewhere in North Liverpool. This was his book published, but what a fantastic book. This should be an entertaining evening.

Was a very interesting film with a good turn out!! Did not know the History of Robert Trussell and the story behind it's publication. Wow!Did not realise it was such a global success, either and it's success continues to grow.

Discussion of the book/ film is an Agenda item for the T.U.C meeting on the 9th April 7.30pm.

Lovely to see fellow Wiki people there. I think I saw a wiki latecomer too?? #bluejacket
