Evening All,

I am trying to install a Orange business dongle onto a new Windows 8.1 laptop. It worked fine on an old XP laptop for getting the Internet.

When I plug it in for the first time the software should install from the dongle itself but a message just come up saying I don't have sufficient admin rights and contact my IT dep.

The PC has been setup on a admin account and I have made it local to the PC.

Is the dongle out of date for Windows 8.

Any thoughts please..

Visit the manufacturer site.
Download latest drivers.

Right click on file select install as admin.

Its possible that it's not windows 8 compatible also.

I have an 4g dongle works perfectly with XP and 7 and installs it's software to help to update it and buy more data, but on the netbook I have with 8.1 on it still allows me to connect to the network but I had to go to the o2 site to get updated software to allow me to buy more data etc, I think the other problem you have with the software asking you to run the install with admin rights is Microshafts way of telling you the software won't run on 8 or 8.1, I've had that a few times and always found it easier to get updated software for 8, 8.1

Try disabling User Access Control and restarting.

When you come to install it, right click the installer file and click RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

Thanks for everyone's feedback on this.

It's the story of old hardware not working on new os.

I feel a trip to the now EE shop and an upgraded dongle is in order.

But maybe the answer is a software update, it's current orange everywhere business dongle version 8 but the last I have seen there is a later version 9.

Watch this space..

In conclusion..

We contacted Orange and they have upgraded the dongle to a wifi device which they are sending out next working day on a new reduced rate package using 4g speeds.

Another satisfied customer..

You can download faster.
Which means you can reach your data limits quicker.

Just advice.

Yeah, be wary of their pushing of 4G. They've been trying it with me.
