£100 coin launched
If youíre keen to annoy your local shopkeeper when you go to pay for a pint of milk and a newspaper, then the Royal Mint has just the thing- a new £100 coin to celebrate the New Year.
The commemorative coin, which is the first to be produced to the sum of £100, contains two ounces of silver and only 50,000 will be produced.
The design, which reflects the New Year theme, features an engraving of Londonís Elizabeth Tower, more commonly known as Big Ben, synonymous with the countdown to the New Year.
It is thought that the coinís expected popularity stems from the success of the coin released to honour the birth of Prince George of Cambridge in 2013.
7,500 sterling silver coins were made to celebrate the birth of the royal tot, but quickly sold out.
