A 9-10 year old male child attempted to steal my grand daughters changing bag that was hanging over the handle of her pram. Her dad had only paused briefly to adjust his coat.

This was about an hour ago.

The bag does not look like a typical changing bag- perhaps an opportunist thief looking for cash/ phones etc.

Be careful out there people. Father and daughter are both OK. I'm fuming.

Used to be nice central park, now i wouldnt go in it for anything. Not even to cut through, would rather walk round. I've personally experienced and witnessed far too many negative things happen in that park in the last 5-10 years from dog fighting, 'gang' brawls, drug deals, girls offering sexual favours for cigarettes and/or alcohol, kids acting like hard men and starting on me/others who were just walking along chatting about the weekends footbLl, and many more i just don't bother going near it anymore... even when we go to the fireworks we dont go into the park we go to VCH and on the top floor is the best vantage point as you can see the whole park. (I'm staff so they dont ask me to move, other pedestrians get asked to move on)

Harrison park is just as bad. Used to be a lovely park to wander through 10 years ago, i know because me and my friends did do, didnt cause any trouble it was just lovely in the summer to sit at the top of the hills with some chips from the chippy between us and having a natter and playing football-tennis on the tennis courts. But would avoid there too after dark these days.

It is such a shame, even after the installation of lamp-posts, that it is a no-go area, especially after dark.

This child- I equate to being a feral rat. Jumping from behind a tree to steal a babies changing bag?? Never heard the likes.

Thank God, the pram did not get over-turned during the tussle to 'save' a bag containing typical baby items such as nappies, wipes, spare this n that.

Just be aware of feral rats in Central Park guys.

Damn shame he didn't catch the little runt and give him a quick skull punch.

Hope they're ok.

As nice as it would be, to give him a slapping its not allowed, you will end up in court with a criminal record and the little shit will be the victim, these little criminals know the system inside out, they practically live in the courts or the police station the do gooders allow this so as not to criminalise them what!) and so they have a licence to carry on offending, thousands are spent on social workers trying to reason with their scummy parent(s)I have sympathy with the genuine people who cant cope and need help, but to many it is a chosen lifestyle and most of them are quite proud of it.

Why not get forum members to all go together? Inform the police so they can identify areas as 'HOTSPOTS' The best results would be if the the council could could light the place up at night, so why not suggest it to our local council?

Lets not go overboard. You are talking about a ten year old here. Rudebox's remedy seems pretty likely to kill the lad.

Crime - all categories - has fallen by about 50% since the mid '90s, and its not just in this country either. The same thing has been happening all over the western world - Europe and North America. You are safer now than you have ever been.

It doesn't seem to be related to policing or any other social policy either. One very attractive theory is that this fall in crime occurs about 20 years after the abolition of lead in petrol. Lead poisoning's symptoms include irritation, irrational behaviour, and violence. We may well have been punishing people for the heinous crime of being poisoned!

Also, I doubt whether you'd be any less safe in the park than anywhere else. Why on earth should people with criminal intentions go to a largely deserted park when they can wander around central Birkenhead where there are thousands of potential victims and numerous escape routes?

I don't think you are suffering from crime so much as fear of crime, something heavily promoted by the press in order to sell more copies.
