Hi fruitcake...

Been fighting the system for two years for an adaptation.

Wirral Council aren't the best unless they're spending the money on its own properties.

We've been given a grant by the council to fund our own works, which will be used to build a wetroom on the side of our house for my daughter to use, but the grant needs to include 2x ceiling hoists and a changing table. We already have a one hoist which I purchased from ebay for £200 instead of buying new which would cost me £1500 to £2000 - the money saved will go to build cost plus some of our own money.

Council wanted to do internal works which would of meant us losing a room, but it wouldn't of been big enough for my daughter as she gets bigger (problem with council is that look at what she needs now rather than future proofing).

We're on OT number 4 which my daughter was under OT service at the age of 2 so one a year as of yet (they ain't the best).

Problem with buying of ebay is that the equipment usually comes from a house were the person who was using it was either put in a home or put in the ground and the family members look on the internet to see how much they can get for it, but usually looking at what it costs new...loads on ebay for £800 but they are not worth it as most equipment is usually supplied free of charge by councils or charities.

The one I bought a couple of weeks ago for £200 was supplied to the original family by a charity for free yet he wanted some cash for his holiday spends frown

The equipment we've had usually goes back from where it came otherwise I give it away for free to another family that needs it...

Sorry I'll step off my soapbox...

I know fighting just to be able to live comfortably in your own home or in your case for your child,is a nightmare. I don't think people realise the stress on both mind and body being a carer for someone can cause. I hope you get sorted soon and I will keep an eye out....yes you do have the right to a little rant now and again
