Hi all,

is there anybody here who could possibly help me?
I have just got a road bike and the gears are slightly out, (chain rubbing on derailleur in certain gears etc)

I am completely new to all this and would really really appreciate it if someone could help. obviously if I could afford it I would take it to a shop to be done but I cant!
the bike was a gift by the way incase anyone thinks "well if you can afford a new bike, you can afford a service etc"
I hope someone can help because it is really spoiling my cycling experience.

Thanks!

it just needs a quick service, i'm by no means a professional but i know a little bit about what i'm doing... i've messed with mine before (Marin mountain bike)

failing that if the derailleur is just rubbing there's many videos on youtube that show you how to sort it. at least if you mess it up you know where you went wrong and can sort it.

Is the chain rubbing the front mech ? If you have say Shimano 105 gears you should be able to trim (alter a little) the position of the front mech by using the L shifter.

I'm quite new to road cycling (not even got one yet) but fellow riders have recommended Halfords and a regular service.

As you haven't got a bike yet, are you aware that you can get a nice carbon fibre frame from about £6000? That will likely include the crank-set, but things like wheels and gears are obviously extra; you should get away with about £10,000 in total.
Back in the 1950's I was a keen road cyclist; I had a lovely Claud Butler lugless frame in Reynolds 531 tubing.

I would recommend learning to do it yourself. It's not too hard once you get the gist of it, and you will learn a bit about how your bike works and save yourself £15 into the bargain. There are loads of videos on youtube, but a good site to help you is parktool.com and click on "repair help" in the top right hand corner.
