Eggs? Meat? Or both? I used to be a part of the 'cannot afford free-range eggs' brigade. Happy Eggs are £2.50 ish for ten- that is just 25p per egg. I can manage that- to eat a 'guilt free' egg- its priceless.

Yes, caged hens eggs possibly work out at 10p per egg? I just can't eat them anymore....

Deliberate or not, this is the company in question and could possibly be the same factory. Happened over the weekend.
They do make a statement that there were no injuries, but seem to have forgotten the 500 pigs that have been burnt alive.
Maybe things were hotting up for them, and it was a better option to get rid. The same family are Christensen Insurance too, and much more besides.
Strangely , there seems to be very little visible reporting on this of any worth.

Looking at the facebook page link of the Fire Dept. there seems to have also been a 'big one' while back!!

I have made a big decision to no longer eat meat , other than fish. Don't do pork as mentioned previously, don't do lamb as to me, it's like eating month old babies, can't afford beef on most days and pretty 'naffed orf' with chicken. So in all it wasn't too difficult.

Looking more into the previous post I made, there seems to be something phoney about the incident or report of. Does anyone else think that ? Hanky can probably tell us smile
So keep up the support for the piggies and thanks to everyone. It is gathering pace.

Thanks Snowshoes and Kitty.
You'll be pleased to know Snowshoes, that Walmart , Canada has committed to ending it's use of crates....although not sure when it is or will be.
Today I have spent looking into all types of animal cruelty. e.g. 1000's pigs buried alive in Asia due to foot and mouth. thrown in pits on top of each other and being covered up as they squeal and in their way, beg for mercy. No more vids for now, completely emotionally drained and confused at such, such cruelty. It is now causing pain, there is so much, and humans able to accept these atrocities must also not have an ounce of compassion for fellow man, nor love for life itself. Cold, calculated, carnivors. China and India are pushing forward the global requirements for more meat, so it will be a 'never ending story' but it could be a humane one and I don't understand how the World Health Organizations are not involved. There have to be health issue concerns for human consumption of diseased meat. (some pigs with cancerous growths) Can't be good eating meat with cancer cells in it.

Thanks for signing, all you can be arsed's thumbsup -and those who will make the effort to stand up and be counted by making their strong feelings known on Rudebox's link to the guilty party

Think Mr Hanky has a point about costs. Same for free range as 'organic veg' , someone somewhere along the line is making a killing and from what you can make out, its often not the farmer, the very person who should be getting the return for effort.

A lot of people are horrified because they are told 'its just a bit more' to buy conscience meat and then when they look, sometimes its often double the price , so they feel ripped off and dont buy.

I think until the profiteers between conscience meat and plate are put in line, which will be when pigs do actually fly, welfare organizations should be more up front about potential costs, and concentrate on the mantras of making meat more affordable by buying good products sparingly /less often/using cheaper tasty cuts/ and wasting less by good meal planning.
THEN maybe more people would go ahead and buy .

For those who would like to point out to the Chief Exec of Asda that they were horrified by that video - Imm sure if his inbox was full of UK complaints - whether he personally cared about the morality side of things or not, he would be obliged to pass the info on to parent Walmart as part of his job. Walmart has shareholders, and shareholders expect their chosen companies to keep abreast of anything that might affect sales and share prices.

another good reason why we should not to eat pork either:

pigs contain 98% uric acid in their blood because their kidneys dont process it that much. that is why it is haram (not allowed) to eat pigs - because your basically eating something mostly saturated in urine.

South Korea

Too many piggies

The cruelest way they are breeding pigs on a mass scale in Australia too now is mother sows can't even turn around, the stalls are that small. We have only two major supermarket chains here, and only Coles now say stall free sows. That'a start. My second job in 1960 was in a piggery, and they had about forty sows with big paddocks to move around in.Keep the pressure up,and good luck.
We do have vegetarian stir fry's now,and will consider going all the way if the animals don't get treated better than they are

Ugh I remember that Grannie , same thing happened all over Asia to millions of chickens, ducks , turkeys etc . Others were thrown alive into incinerators . Mans inhumanity knows no bounds.

If I was the CEO of Wallmart and saw that video, that farm would be off my supply list right away, thats all it takes. Its not Wallmarts farm, its a supplier.

It will be written into the contract that if the supplier does anything to bring the buyer ( Walmart ) into disrepute, they can and will terminate the supply contract. That video will damage walmart.
