just tell them straight , if your out of contract , i.e you have been with them longer than 12months or have not had any new equipment installed which can extend your contract further within them 12 months they can't do anything

After trying and failing on the phone I emailed them a month or so back to ask how to cancel my subscription ( I had no intention of cancelling). I got a call back within an hour to talk about it and ended up with a reduction in my monthly expense.

Contracts out at the end of the month, emailed them to cancel, they said it was too early so I pointed out it says minimum 31 days notice, they then said I had to phone (premium number)although it states you can cancel by email, it should be strait forward but getting the run around.

Dont ring the premium number go to www.saynoto0870.com . Click on search alternative number, type in the 0844/0870/0845 number and a list of either 0800 or 01 landline numbers should appear

You're not the only one. Sky are scumbags.

Telegraph

If it were me, I'd write to them cancelling the contract. State the date you are cancelling from (i.e. the last date of your 12 months plus one day). State you are within the 31 days notification period. Send the letter signed for. Say in the letter you will be sending it signed for, get a stamped certificate of posting as well, then cancel your direct debit. You might owe them one further payment for the last month, ask them for a final bill and pay that by cheque. Refuse to pay any "early cancellation penalties" if you are totally sure you have cancelled after 12 months.

They then can't say they did not receive your letter, as you have proof it was received and signed for. You can obtain this proof by entering the barcode number on the RM website.

They will threaten you with all sorts and put the debt collectors on you, but you're legally watertight. Just reply to any letters with a copy of your original letter and enclose copies of the RM webpage showing the letter was received and signed for , and the certificate of posting. Send copies, do NOT send the originals or they will "lose" them.

You'll need to be quite determined. Just reply to any contact from them by referring to your original cancellation latter and don't enter into a dialogue. Their retention team will try very hard to tempt you back with all sorts of deals, whether you accept is up to you. Personally I wouldn't p*ss on Rupert Murdoch if he was on fire, but that's me.
