WIRRAL'S street lights blackout has been blamed after a cyclist suffered injuries when she rode into gate on an unlit public cycle / footpath.

Lisa Madden was cycling along the pathway near Seacombe SpacePort – designated for bike riders and pedestrians - on her way to a fitness club on the night of Monday, January 13, when she crashed into he closed gate.

The teacher was "sent flying" and sustained injuries to her chest and thigh.

I can't see how she did not see the gate?? That maybe because I am familiar with the area though.

Still, her injuries look painful and there is no real point to the 'gate of doom'.

The only thing that could make sense was if she was dazzled.

We don't have pitch black.

She did have lights

Apparently she'd ridden that way lots of times and there was no gate, then that day there was a new gate

Dumb bitch.

Silly not having lighting there though given the people that hang around.

Live nearby meself and walk the dog down there and always see muppets hangin round.

Must be riding with eyes shut, or going too fast, if it was that dark then surely you would adjust your speed to suit the conditions, good job there were no pedestrians on the path in dark clothing.

Dark and dangerous. (As Jim Royal would say My Arse) Would you notice the closed gate?

Sorry but if this person could not see the gate, then they should not be riding a bike.

All they can see is £££££££££££££££££

If you can't see in front of you the conditions are not good enough for cycling to take place. Therefore if you cannot 'see' do 'not' cycle.
I wonder if thoughts of compensation were involved?

That's why I put apparently, I was quoting what her husband had put on Facebook. Luckily I don't have a need to go down there

Google Earth clearly shows that a gate has been there for quite some time
