Residents who decided not to subscribe to the new garden waste collection service will be able to return their brown bin to be recycled in November.

Householders who have not subscribed to the service will soon be receiving a letter informing them of the day that their unwanted wheelie bin will be collected.

On that day, residents must leave their empty brown bin out for collection by 7am and it will be collected and taken to be recycled. Collections will be carried out over a two week period commencing in the Wallasey area on 19th November - the exact date is detailed on the letter residents are being sent.

If, for any reason residents have mislaid that letter and need to check their scheduled collection day they should ring Streetscene on 0151 606 2004.

Residents are also reminded that the bin must be empty otherwise it will not be taken. It is also stressed that this is the only opportunity they will have to get them collected from their property.

If a resident returns their brown bin and later decides that they want to opt into the garden waste service, they will be required to purchase a new garden waste bin at a cost of £37, in addition to the subscription fee of £35 (£30 online).

Cllr Brian Kenny, Wirral Council Cabinet member for Environment and Sustainability, said: “We were delighted that more than 35,500 residents signed up to continue receiving kerbside garden waste collections and more are joining each day. However, we understand that not everyone chose to pay the small charge for this service and for them, this is their opportunity to hand back that unwanted, wheelie bin and we will ensure it is recycled.

“People don’t have to hand them back – if you’ve found an alternative use for your brown bin, then great. Even better if you’re using it as a water butt or as a compost bin. Home composting is something we are eager to encourage people to do, so much so that we are planning to hold some workshops about this next year. Residents can register to attend by contacting Streetscene on 0151 606 2004.”

More information is available on the 'Brown bin take back' page.

If anyone wants rid of their unwanted brown bins, we could use them at the sanctuary for the horses feed. smile

Don't tell the Council that you could do with bins otherwise you will be charged for new ones. This profligate council would rather charge for services which we already pay for, that reduce the top echelons of management who are the drains on our council tax. Back room staff contribute very little towards keeping services moving, the more they contract out the less managers are required, but for some strange reason that fails to happen. It always will if you ask the top people to make savings. The last people they would remove are themselves!

Exclusive offer

For a limited period only there is no charge for the supply of garden waste bins (previously £37). However, there is an annual collection charge for each additional bin of £20. Therefore, if you choose to order a bin, when you subscribe to the scheme, the cost in the first year will be as follows:

They are so full of rubbish they cant make there minds up. !!

I dont subscribe to the Brown bin but it just goes to show you the scare tactics in place.
I wonder if it will be a Exclusive offer about this time next year ??
