Firefighters rescue unconscious man from his flat in Birkenhead
Firefighters saved the life of an unconscious man when they rescued him from his burning flat in Birkenhead.
The fire service was called out to Carlisle Mews just before 6.45pm on Monday.
Crews carried out emergency resuscitation procedures and administered oxygen before paramedics took over.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Arrowe Park Hospital suffering burns.
A joint investigation into the incident will be carried out by the fire service and Merseyside Police.
Station manager John Davies, said: "Fire crews responded quickly and dealt with an extremely difficult fire very efficiently.
"There was extensive fire damage to the living room and the remainder of the flat was damaged by heat and smoke."
Fire officers will be carrying out community reassurance in the area over the next few days.
Three appliances from Birkenhead, Wallasey and Upton fire stations attended. Source
