No 7 Holy Cross club, was behind the shops on Hoylake Road and the entrance was on the left hand side of Challis Street.

Ruperts Club was at the junction of Argyle Street and Marion Street and opened some time in the late 60s-early 70s.

Before that, the building (marked by red dot) belonged to the WRVS and was where the needy were given secondhand clothing. Before that, I think it was an employment exchange. Today, it is some sort of office accommodation.

Not sure,That was affectionately known as the Coolies Mission and in the 50s they used to go in the North Western (The Black fellas) for a drink, they used to give me pennies when they came out drunk.

That's the building. The entrance was on Argyle Street - that main door on the extreme left, which is still there. I only went there once or twice and can't remember if the whole place was used as a club. But I seem to recall it was quite an 'upmarket' place when it opened - i.e. not just a drinking den.

I remember 68 Argyle Street in the late 60s as the Cheshire Book & Toy Co, who sold "wholesale toys, books and stationery". As a child I was always intrigued by what sort of 'treasures' lay inside - exactly what sort of toys and books they sold - because, of course, members of the public weren't allowed inside; I vaguely recall being told later that they dealt in club and office supplies, selling bingo books and toys for use as bingo and raffle prizes, but I don't know how true that is.

The building opened as Ruperts Club in 1973, and lasted until the late 1980s or early 1990s in a variety of guises, starting out as a members' club, then a wine bar and restaurant and finally a night club. The licence was last renewed in 1989, but the club appears to have closed not long afterwards.

The club occupied the whole of the ground floor together with the rear of the first floor, which contained the toilets and offices; the front of the first floor and whole second floor were separate office accommodation accessed via stairs behind the right-hand doorway on Argyle Street. The building remained unoccupied for many years until bought by the present owners in about 2001, when they obtained Planning Permission for a change of use of the whole building to office accommodation.

The entrance was at the side of the building , the bottom picture shows the entrance which was between the window marked M W and M W and the first arch to the left of that window , i went a couple of timees and from what i can remember (due to alchohol ) the pay booth was directly in front as you walked in and the club its self was downstairs in the basement area

The Apostleship Of The Sea was located opposite Merton Place, on Park Road South, the building may still be there
